‘Sister Wives’: Robyn Brown Believing Her Girls Use Church as an Opportunity to Find a Husband Is So Hypocritical
Sister Wives star Robyn Brown shared with Kody Brown that their daughters wanted to attend church outside of their polygamist faith. As she lobbies for her daughter’s choice, Kody and Robyn reminisced about their first meeting at church over a decade earlier. By appearing to shame her daughters for wanting to meet boys at church, she subsequently outed herself for doing the same thing over a decade ago with Kody.
Robyn Brown and Kody Brown fell for one another at church, in front of his other wives
Robyn Brown and Kody Brown reportedly first met at church. They discussed the story of the first time they saw each other at a service during the Sister Wives episode “The Truth Will Set You Free.”
Kody recalled his and Robyn’s first meeting. “Because the first time I saw you in our church, we made that gaze, that connection.” She teased she was the one who made the first gaze.
Kody insisted, “Oh, no, no, no, no. I looked longer. By the time you looked away, I actually said, ‘That was probably inappropriate. She is most likely married.’”
After claiming God was his “wingman” when it came to meeting Robyn, she admitted to falling for his “laugh lines.” She added, “You looked at me and bolts of lightning shots hit my body.”
That romantic story would have been sweet, except for the fact that Robyn didn’t even live in the area where she first met Kody. So, did Robyn ensure she caught Kody’s gaze knowing the family was on tap for a reality television show and she was a struggling single mother of three who needed help?
Did Robyn deliberately put herself in Kody’s path?
It has been long believed that Robyn Brown knew the family was set to get a show with TLC, as word of the TLC series had reportedly spread within the AUB community. Once church members knew the Browns were potentially looking for a fourth wife, Robyn conveniently placed herself in their path.
As the story goes, Kody left his family for weekends to court Robyn, driving hours each way to visit her on weekends. This took precious time away from his other wives and his children.
Kody fell hard for Robyn because she made him famous and feel like a hero. Robyn remains loyal to Kody because he saved her from struggling as a single mom.
Eventually, they married, and TLC made their romance look like everyone in the family was on board. But it was clear from those early days that Kody favored Robyn and would continue to do so throughout their marriage.
So, it is just hypocritical that Robyn accused her daughters Breanna and Aurora of husband shopping at church when she once did the same thing. It’s just as hypocritical that she is okay with them joining a church outside of the AUB when she shamed Madison, Logan, Leon, and Mykelti in season 3 when they wanted to break away from their family faith in Las Vegas.
Robyn sang a different tune to Janelle and Kody’s daughter Madison years earlier
During season 3, the Brown children struggled after moving from their home in Lehi, Utah, to Las Vegas. They were looking for a religious youth group where they could meet other kids.
However, while Christine and Robyn expressed serious reservations about it, Janelle and Meri wanted their kids to go to a place where they could have social opportunities, and have religious ties even if was outside the AUB.
Logan, Maddie, and Mykelti Brown expressed their desire to make friends in their new state. Meri said the family raised their kids to “be open.” But Robyn bit back, saying when the kids had their “frontal lobe completely grown” they could make decisions about religion.
Maddie bit back, “You always told us we could choose our church and we could be what we want.” Robyn yelled, “Choose your church when you’re an adult.” Maddie responded, “I hate the church we have right now.” Robyn attempted to guilt those on board with the choice by saying, “We are killing ourselves trying to live this life.”
Ironically, as Flagstaff, Arizona has no AUB-affiliated churches and it appears neither Aurora nor Breanna has a calling to live polygamy, Robyn appeared to understand their choice. However, she should have given the OG kids the same grace years earlier. It probably would have allowed them to grow closer to her than separate themselves altogether.
Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
