‘Sister Wives’ Is Trying to Improve Robyn Brown’s Image: Can It Be Done?
In season 18 of Sister Wives, Meri Brown was given a redemption arc. The mother of one finally admitted her marriage was over and began to speak more openly about her feelings. Season 19 has painted her, once again, in a positive light. It looks like TLC is aiming for a redemption arc for Robyn Brown in the current season of Sister Wives. That will be a much tougher sell, though.
Season 19 of ‘Sister Wives’ is trying to make Robyn Brown look good
Kody Brown is the villain of Sister Wives. Still, Robyn Brown is a very close second. Kody’s fourth wife has come off as unreliable, disingenuous, and demanding for several seasons. Even before the Brown family’s marriage fell apart, Robyn seemed to cause far more conflict than any of Kody’s other wives. Fan perception of the mother of five has never been good. TLC appears to be trying to change that now.
While we are just a few episodes into season 19 of Sister Wives, it seems the network is trying to show Robyn in a positive light by featuring conflicts between her and Kody Brown. In one seemingly recreated scene, Robyn and Kody “argue” over his relationship with the children he shares with his other wives. Robyn pushes Kody to try to reconnect with them. While the scene was supposed to make Robyn look better, it came off as terribly contrived. Kody storming off felt forced, too.
Can Robyn Brown be redeemed in the eyes of fans?
TLC seems pretty committed to making Robyn Brown look redeemable. They are pushing the narrative that Robyn is distraught by the family’s breakdown. While the edit tries to make Robyn look good, it seems like a lost cause. For fans of the series, Robyn has caused too much trouble for a change in fan perception to occur. She’s not a sympathetic character and never has been. A few fights with Kody Brown will not change that.
For the last five seasons, Robyn Brown has been viewed as the cause of all the Brown family’s trouble. Before that, she was still considered a roadblock to the plural family’s ability to function as it once did. Her lack of concern over how the move to Flagstaff would affect the family’s older kids largely cemented her as a villain in the eyes of the fans.
Season 19 of Sister Wives is currently airing on TLC on Sundays at 10 p.m ET.
