‘Sister Wives’ Shocker: Midseason Finale Brings Twists and Timeline Catch-Up
The most recent installment of TLC’s Sister Wives was memorable not for its storyline, which tried to make a cohesive tale of the fragmented Brown family, but for a little blurb in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. A note to viewers to watch the Sister Wives midseason finale on Feb. 2 was a definite shocker.
‘Sister Wives’ mid-season finale is the last we’ll see of the Brown family until spring
A TLC rep told Showbiz Cheat Sheet exclusively that Sister Wives will go on hiatus until spring. The network has not scheduled a return date for the series as yet.
Before the break, the series will have aired 20 episodes of season 19 before its midseason finale. Therefore this will be the longest season of Sister Wives after season 6, which clocked in at 18 episodes.
TLC has not confirmed the storyline nor the number of episodes left for the remainder of season 19. But news of a hiatus came as a suprise.
Perhaps this could be how TLC finally brings this series to its current timeline after years of fan complaints about how Sister Wives storylines are two years or better behind. Doing so would end the timeline consistencies throughout the first half of season 19.
‘Sister Wives’ Season 19’s timeline jumps make the stories hard to follow
The timeline of the TLC series is at best, inconsistent. However, there is a sense of trying to bring season 19 to a current place in the family’s history.
For example, Mykelti and Tony Padron’s baby shower took place in September 2022 and was seen this season. Also seen this season was Gwendlyn Brown’s wedding shower which was filmed in the summer of 2023.
Then, there was also Christine and David Wooley’s marriage, which occurred in November 2023. Next, the couple bought a bed and breakfast in Moab, Utah, in March 2024, but this purchase was featured one episode later, making it seem as if it were made immediately after the wedding.
When Robyn and Kody Brown were picnicking on the Coyote Pass property with their family, the timeline placed them in summer of 2023. But, Meri and Janelle teaming up against Kody was probably filmed in the winter of 2024. Janelle announced she Taeda Farms in September 2024 and that storyline also made it to this season.
There have been elements of the Brown family life that have not yet been seen during season 19. This includes the sale of Kody and Robyn’s home purchase in Flagstaff, Arizona, for over $2 million in October. The couple sold their previous home in November 2024 for $1.7 million.
Christine filed a lawsuit against Kody Brown on Sept. 16, 2024, for child support and custody of their daughter, Truely Brown. It remains an ongoing case as of January 2025. It’s unclear if this will play out later this season.
There’s also Garrison Brown’s death, which occurred in March 2024. His passing was mentioned during the series’ first episode but not thereafter.
All of these moments were spread throughout this season thus far. So trying to paint a cohesive picture for fans is the goal, but for now, the series isn’t making it easy to watch and follow along.
TLC sets ‘Sister Wives’ replacement after its midseason finale
Taking the place of Sister Wives until its return from a midseason finale is The Baldwins. The series follows the family life of actor Alec Baldwin, his wife Hilaria, and their seven children.
A TLC press release shares the following information. “TLC has always been a platform for compelling stories. With The Baldwins, viewers gain an unprecedented look into Alec and Hilaria Baldwin’s family journey,” said Howard Lee, President of TLC.
“As they navigate parenthood, marriage, and life under the spotlight, the series blends moments of joy, chaos, and sincerity offering a genuine portrayal beyond the headlines.”
“This series gives viewers a glimpse into our lives as a family, the good, bad, wild, and everything in between. We hope viewers will connect with our experiences and the love we share. Filming the show has been an amazing journey, and we’re proud to have TLC as a partner in telling our story,” said Hilaria and Alec Baldwin.
The Baldwins premieres Sunday, Feb. 23 at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
