On the most recent episode of MTV’s Catfish, Slick Woods stood in as the guest co-host to help Oceanna find her online lover, Nelly. Before appearing on the television show, Woods created a prolific career, modeling for Kanye West’s Yeezy brand, and posed for several international editions of Vogue. Here are five things you should know about the 22-year-old gap-toothed beauty.
Slick Woods’ grandmother raised her
Born Simone Thompson, she moved to Venice Beach, California, with her mother at the age of two. Two years later, her mother went to prison, so Woods’ grandmother raised her. At 7-years-old, Woods’ grandmother got a divorce, which led to them living in hotels and cars. Woods ended up dropping out of high school at 17-years-old and spent some time in jail the following year because of her drug use.
Kanye West is credited with launching Slick Woods’ career
Woods met model Ash Stymest in Los Angeles as she waited for a bus. He asked her if she ever modeled before, and then had his agents meet her. They helped book her first modeling gig, a 2015 Yeezy lookbook when she was 19-years-old. Her career has since then skyrocketed as she went on to model for Calvin Klein, Urban Outfitters, Marc Jacobs, and more.
Slick Woods is a face of Rihanna’s makeup line, Fenty Beauty
Woods said singer Rihanna came across a picture of Woods on Instagram, found her, and they began talking. Rihanna started featuring Woods in Fenty Beauty campaigns and fashion shows. Woods also has a tattoo of the word “Fenty” behind her ear. In September 2018, Woods walked the runway for Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty show during New York Fashion Week in her third trimester. She made headlines for telling Vogue UK that her last memory before going into labor was Rihanna spanking her with a whip.
Slick Woods is a mother
Woods went to the doctor because she thought she looked “chunky,” and realized she was pregnant. She didn’t think she could conceive because of an incorrect infertility diagnosis when she was younger. However, Woods gave birth to a healthy baby boy in September 2018 and decided to name him “Saphir,” inspired by the September birthstone, Sapphire.
The father is model Adonis Bosso, although she said she wasn’t expecting to end up with a man. Woods identifies as bisexual and told Elle Magazine that she dated women before Bosso. Woods hasn’t gone into detail about her relationship with Bosso. However, he lives in Los Angeles, and she lives in Brooklyn, New York.
Slick Woods’ mother recently came home from prison
In February 2019, Woods posted a photo on her Instagram of her and her mother, Vonnya-Leah Mason, when she picked her up from prison. Mason, who gave birth to Woods at 14-years-old, had served a 17-year prison sentence for manslaughter. While Mason was still incarcerated, Woods called her three times a day for fifteen minutes to keep their relationship strong.
