Kanye West and Kim Kardashian seemed like the perfect power couple. Unfortunately, it was not meant to last. In February 2021, after almost seven years and four children together, Kim filed for divorce. But it wouldn’t be easy. Their divorce proceedings have been long, drawn-out, and incredibly public.

However, there were times over when it seemed like Kim and West were going to reconcile. It certainly seemed like West didn’t want to go through with the divorce. In fact, he walked out of Kim’s Saturday Night Live monologue when she used a word in reference to their relationship.

In October 2021, Kim hosted SNL for the first time. It was a big deal. Her sister, Khloé Kardashian, and her mother, Kris Jenner, even made the trip to New York and appeared in a sketch with Kim.

According to sources, West was very supportive during Kim’s Saturday Night Live practice. He’s a great performer and reportedly helped the reality star learn her lines and land her jokes. Yet somehow he hadn’t been warned of the contents of her monologue. West was offended when Kim referred to him as a “rapper” and said they were “divorced.”

One joke in Kim Kardashian’s ‘SNL’ monologue made Kanye West walk out

In her monologue, Kim said “I married the best rapper of all time. Not only that, he’s the richest Black man in America. A talented, legit genius who gave me four incredible kids. So, when I divorced him, you have to know it came down to just one thing: his personality.” At that, West left the 30 Rock studio and didn’t stay for the taping.

Not only was West upset that Kim had made fun of his personality, but he took offense to the word “rapper,” which he felt understated everything he does, as Insider reports. He also didn’t like that Kim used the word “divorced,” since the two were still legally married at the time.

Kim did feel bad about hurting West, especially after he had been so helpful. But his attitude frustrated her. “He’s so used to getting exactly what he wants,” she told her sister Khloé on their Hulu reality show, The Kardashians.

As for West, he told the Drink Champs podcast shortly after the Saturday Night Live taping: “SNL making my wife say ‘I divorced him’ because they just wanted to get that bar off, and I ain’t never even seen the papers, we’re not even divorced. That ain’t no joke to me. My kids want their parents to stay together. I want us to be together.”

It is probably for the best that West wasn’t in the studio for Kim’s Saturday Night Live performance. He missed her now-infamous Aladdin sketch with comedian Pete Davidson, where the two shared a chaste kiss on a supposed “magic carpet.”

However, the kiss may not have been as chaste as it seemed to the audience. The two connected on the set of Saturday Night Live and are now dating. Davidson and Kim have been together for a few months. The comedian is 13 years her junior and already has her name branded on his chest, as well as other tattoos referencing her and her children
