Snoop Dogg has started his own cannabis company and recently opened his own dispensary. Much of his personal brand is centered around his marijuana use, as he proved when fans went into mourning when he said he was giving up smoke. It was, of course, part of a marketing campaign for a smokeless fire pit. The rapper and weed aficionado once shared his dream blunt rotation.

When asked about his dream blunt rotation, Snoop had one person at the front of his mind. He hoped to smoke with her before a recording session with Dr. Dre.

“I really want to smoke with and do a record with Sade,” he told Complex in 2024. “I think we would have a nice time smoking and then going right into a session that Dr. Dre produced.”

He also included Michael Jordan and Muhammed Ali on his list. When asked by Dr. Dre if he meant Michael Jackson instead of Jordan, Snoop said he’d already smoked next to the late singer.

Snoop Dogg said he smokes weed when he wants to write a song

While Snoop Dogg has said he has taken breaks from weed at various points in his life, he relies on it when he works on new music. He said it helps him write. It’s one of several elements he reportedly needs to have to make music.

“To write rap I’ve got to smoke a lot of weed,” he said, per the Irish Examiner. “I need some music, old music, R’n’B, hip hop, anything that’s 70s, 80s, 60s, something that’s inspiring, then I’ve got to have a couple of females around for inspiration.”

Though he’s high while he writes, he said it feels like a sport to him.

“It’s a sport to me, because it’s like you’re driving me to want to outdo you,” he said. “It’s like if I saw you doing a three-sixty kick on a skateboard, I gotta do a seven-twenty, just to outdo you. My style of rap, I’m going to say is tae-kwon-do.”

He smoked his first blunt with Tupac Shakur

Snoop began smoking weed years ago and said his habit developed with help from Tupac Shakur. Tupac gave him his first blunt, which he quickly learned he liked.

“I smoked my first blunt with Tupac,” he said in a 2018 interview on The Howard Stern Show. “I’d never smoked a blunt before. I was smoking joints. … I said, ‘Hmm, this s*** tastes magical.’”

He believes weed is a good way for him to connect with people.

“[Smoking weed] is a bridge, Howard,” he said, adding, “I’ve met so many people and established so many relationships over a joint.”

Years after this encounter with Tupac, Snoop and his company Death Row Records Cannabis unveiled a limited edition 2Pac collection.

“That first blunt sparked a friendship that ran deep,” Snoop said, per PR Newswire. “We’ll always have his music, but this is another way I can bring what was meaningful to 2Pac to his fans.”
