Snoop Dogg Said He Regretted His ‘Out of Pocket’ Remarks About Eminem
In 2020, Snoop Dogg said Eminem didn’t crack his list of top ten favorite rappers. This kicked off a short-lived feud between the two, as Eminem felt disrespected that Snoop didn’t appear to appreciate his music. Within a year, Snoop said he’d apologized to Eminem for what he said. He didn’t want any bad blood between them.
Snoop Dogg and Eminem began feuding in 2020
In 2020, Snoop said he thought Eminem made it as far as he did because of Dr. Dre.
“Eminem, the great White hope. White rappers had zero respect in rap. Let’s keep that one thou-wow. None,” he said on The Breakfast Club. “He [Dr. Dre] has probably put Eminem in the position to where he could be one of the top ten rappers ever. I don’t think so, but the game feels like he’s top ten lyricists and all that that comes with it. But, that’s just because he’s with Dr. Dre and Dr. Dre helped him find the best Eminem that he could find.”
Eminem said he didn’t find the assertion that Dr. Dre helped him to be offensive. Some of what Snoop said felt disrespectful to him, though.
“Everything he said was fine, up to a point,” Eminem said on Shade 45 (per Rolling Stone). “Him saying Dre made the best version of me, absolutely, why would I have a problem with that?…. it was the last statement where he said, ‘Far as music I can live without, I can live without that s***.’ Now you’re being disrespectful. It just caught me off-guard.”
He later said he regretted his choice of words
In 2021, Snoop and Eminem set their feud aside after Dr. Dre had an aneurysm. Snoop also publicly said he regretted his words.
“The thing is that we love hip-hop so much, we competitive, we battle rappers, so that was supposed to trigger that in him,” Snoop later said on The Breakfast Club. “But we brothers and we family so we learned to appreciate each other for what we do and how we get down, and we had a long conversation about the respect that we have for each other and the way we need to talk in public about each other.”
He added that it was “out of pocket” for him to not include Eminem on his top ten list.
“I apologized to him, and I let him know and I’m just bettering myself. I make mistakes,” he said, adding, “I ain’t perfect, I’m Snoop Dogg!”
Snoop Dogg said he sees Eminem as family
In 2024, Eminem and 50 Cent appeared on the song “Gun Smoke” on Snoop’s album Missionary.
“[T]he 50 Cent, Eminem song is a real street record that sounds like it’s supposed to be in this game with all the different things that I’m seeing,” Snoop told Variety. “Especially in my maps, so it fits perfectly with the things I’m doing.”
He said he was thrilled to work with Eminem on the song and a new Fortnite campaign.
“That’s Slim Shady, that’s my guy! That’s my Libra gang partner,” he said. “So we like to do as many things we can do together, we like to do because we’re family.”
