Snoop Dogg Said a Track on His New Album is the 1st Song to Ever Make Him Cry
On Snoop Dogg’s latest release, Missionary, a song that nearly didn’t make the album has deeply moved the rapper. Snoop teamed up with Dr. Dre on Missionary, and the latter didn’t want one slower song on the album. He shared why he fought for it, and why it holds such emotional resonance for him.
Snoop Dogg said 1 song on his latest album made him cry
After decades in the music industry, Snoop has finally made a song that moves him to tears. He said the song “Sticcy Situation” makes him cry, which has never happened to him before.
“Well, that’s the song that made me cry,” he told Complex. “No songs that I ever made made me cry. Real s***.”
Dr. Dre, who gave the interview with him, joked Snoop was getting “mushy.” Snoop said the song simply hit a certain level of depth that moved him.
“[W]e was at the little thing with Interscope when we was playing the record and they had asked me, ‘What song means the most to you?’ And I said that record,” he said. “And I played it, and when I played it, the motherf***er made me cry. There’s certain s*** that’s being said in that verse that’s deep to me.”
Snoop Dogg said he had to fight to get the song on the album
When asked if he had to pick what about the album makes him “super proud,” Snoop pointed to “Sticcy Situation.”
“It’s a song called ‘Sticcy Situation,’” he said. “I had to fight to get this song on the album.”
Dr. Dre said he didn’t think the song initially fit with the rest of the album. It grew on him after a while, though.
“[I]t’s really slow and much more mellow than the rest of the songs on the album,” he explained. “And I wanted to make it so every song on this album could be performed live. And this isn’t one of those songs, but it’s good enough to be on the record.”
Snoop explained that it had already been discarded, but he brought it back. Dr. Dre worked to get it to a point where it fit on the record.
“It was in the other files and then I brought it back and then this n**** mixed the f*** out of it,” he said. “But it sound like a classic Dr. Dre song.”
He said he aims to ‘fill the void’ when he makes music
Snoop and Dr. Dre teamed up for Missionary decades after working together on Doggystyle, Snoop’s debut album. Snoop shared why they decided to collaborate again.
“We still good at what we do and we just felt like we always fill the void when we make music,” he said, adding, “We trying to put back the sound that we created under his direction and that’s what we’re doing. We’re putting it back in the scene again.”
He explained what he meant by “the void.”
“That void is Dr. Dre’s sound,” he said. “When Dr. Dre makes music, his music don’t sound like nobody else’s music. And it’s a uniqueness about his sound that me and him make together and I’m just honored to still be able to do it at a high level and for him to be able to produce me.”
