Hitmaking rapper Snoop Dogg has been in the music industry for three decades. Throughout that time, he’s seen countless artists come and go, along with other innovations in the industry and beyond, including the rise of the internet and social media. Now, the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper has an interesting plan to purchase Twitter and rework the platform.

Elon Musk is in the process of buying Twitter

Billionaire Elon Musk announced in April 2022 that he planned to buy Twitter for approximately $44 billion. Prior to his announcement, Musk was the largest shareholder in the company, with a nearly 10% stake in ownership in stocks.

In a TED interview, Musk stated that he believed in Twitter’s “potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe”. He called free speech a “societal imperative for a functioning democracy” and insisted that the deal wasn’t done to increase his wealth, despite his lack of fighting government censorship around the world.

Snoop Dogg said he wants to buy Twitter, and has big plans for it

In the aftermath of Musk’s announcement, Snoop Dogg took to Twitter to outline his hilarious plan to buy the company.

“May have to buy Twitter now,” Snoop said. “Gonna replace the board of directors with Jimmy from my corner fish fry, Tommy Chung, and the guy with the ponytail on CNBC [Pete Najarian].”

“First line of business: fee internet on airplanes!!! 29 dollars for 1 hour is bulls***,” he continued.

“Everyone gets a blue checkmark. Even the bots with 10 letters in their name that hit you in DMs n just say ‘Hello’. Nah f*** those bots,” he added, ending with the hashtag #WhenSnoopBuysTwitter.

Snoop Dogg isn’t the only rapper who has spoken openly about having their eyes on the social media platform. Meek Mill expressed his desire to team up with Musk in a tweet: “Elon Musk, let us invest in Twitter with you, big homie.”

Snoop Dogg’s tech ventures

If Snoop Dogg did buy Twitter, it wouldn’t be his first venture into the world of tech by any means. In 2019, he launched his own esports league called the Gangsta Gaming League; his move followed in the footsteps of artists such as Drake, The Weeknd, and Jennifer Lopez, who have invested in the booming esports industry.

In 2019, Snoop Dogg even ventured into the video game business, creating his own esports league known as the Gangsta Gaming League. He’s not the first celebrity to dabble in esports: artists such as Drake, The Weeknd, and Jennifer Lopez have invested in the booming esports industry.

In early 2022, Snoop announced that he had purchased his old record label, the iconic Death Row Records. According to Billboard, Snoop said at the time that he planned to do something new for the music industry: introducing artists digitally as a part of an “NFT label.”

“We will be putting out artists through the metaverse,” Snoop said in a statement. “Just like [Death Row] broke the industry when we was the first independent [label] to be major, I want to be the first major [label] in the metaverse.”
