‘Snowfall’ Article Hints at Major Character Death in Season 5
Snowfall is set in a world where anyone can die at any moment. Characters like Kevin Hamilton, Andre Wright, and Drew “Manboy” Miller (and possibly Alton Williams) have all come and gone from Franklin Saint’s life in the years the TV show has been on the air. But it seems that the biggest death is still ahead of us. Damson Idris’ interview with The Hollywood Reporter hints that it might even be in Snowfall Season 5.

Damson Idris discussed ‘Snowfall’ Season 5 in an interview
The Hollywood Reporter published the interview in March, in which Idris discussed the earlier days of his career leading up to Snowfall in 2017. He recalled auditioning for the role of Franklin Saint and begging late director John Singleton, who created the show with Eric Amadio and Dave Andron, to give him the part. He didn’t realize he had already won Andron over with his audition tape.
“I was like, ‘Where did you find him?’” Andron said of the British actor. “The [California] accent was really strong already. He’d never really even spent time in the States. And he just had everything. You bought him as a boy genius, you bought the charisma.”
Andron’s only qualm had to do with whether Idris could play older versions of Franklin. He decided to test him by having Idris act out a scene five years from then, when Franklin kills “someone he loves.”
“When I saw [Damson] do that, in my mind, it left no question,” Andron recalled.
It could happen in ‘Snowfall’ Season 5
If we do the math, five years later corresponds with Snowfall Season 5, which is airing now on FX. The show returned in February and follows Franklin a year after the events at the end of Snowfall Season 4. He has $100 million dollars to his name and a new girlfriend, Veronique Turner, with whom he’s expecting a baby. Franklin is trying to build a legitimate life to provide them with safety and security, but there are challenges.
In addition to the return of Reed Thompson, there are also threats from inside his circle. Louie is making moves against him, Peaches stole $5 million meant for a development project, and Cissy Saint is secretly working with a questionable man named Rubén to get revenge on Reed. Franklin’s struggles to keep everyone in line coupled with the article suggests someone will die this season.
Then again, it’s possible it happened already, perhaps in episode 1 when Franklin shot his friend Rob. It’s also unclear if it’s still even the plan for Franklin to kill that person. Idris did say the show would get dark this season, though.
Chaos continues in the next episode
A happier moment comes in the next episode of Snowfall when Jerome and Louie have their wedding. Jerome is ready to get serious and build a future as a music executive. But trouble is ahead, as a statement from FX mentions that they are “promptly sent down the rabbit hole” after the wedding.
Watch Snowfall Season 5 Episode 8 on FX at 10 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 6.
