Sofia Pernas Recalls Slapping Husband Justin Hartley in a ‘The Young and the Restless’ Scene
Sofia Pernas and Justin Hartley can thank The Young and the Restless for bringing them together. The Hollywood A-list couple met on the set of the CBS soap opera in 2015. Although they didn’t date until many years later, they had memorable moments on the show.
Sofia Pernas got physical with Justin Hartley on ‘The Young and the Restless’
Pernas and Hartley’s love story began thanks to The Young and the Restless. Hartley joined the series in November 2014 as an Adam Newman recast. Seven months later, Pernas was cast as Marisa Sierras. While their characters had little interaction, one scene had Pernas getting physical with Hartley.
During a February 2022 appearance on a special Valentine’s Day episode of The Price is Right, the couple recalled their time on the soap opera. Pernas told host Drew Carey that one scene with their characters became heated. “I slapped him around a few times,” Pernas recalled.
The particular scene involves Marisa confronting Adam about turning her boyfriend Noah Newman (Robert Adamson) into the cops. Hartley says the scene was “emotional” and that they ran into a snafu while filming. Since the game show and soap opera film across the hall, the audience’s loud cheers would disrupt filming. Pernas and Hartley’s scene had to be reshot.
The couple didn’t fall in love on ‘The Young and the Restless’
Although Pernas and Hartley worked together, they didn’t fall in love on The Young and the Restless. At that time, Harley was engaged to Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause. Yet, Pernas made an excellent first impression on her future husband.
In an interview with Haute Living, Hartley recalled his first meeting with Pernas on the soap opera. “You meet in capacities. We didn’t work together that closely, and we didn’t work together that long. I knew that she was very kind and very nice. I liked being around her. But I was in a different place in my life. I wasn’t available,” the actor explained.
Hartley and Stause married in October 2017, but he filed for divorce in November 2019. Seven months after separating from Stause, Hartley began dating Pernas. While Hartley and Pernas remained mum on their relationship status, they officially announced they were a couple in December 2020.
The couple married in March 2021, a month after his and Stause’s divorce was finalized. As Hartley explained, “Timing has a lot to do with that. I’m very lucky to not only have found ‘the one,’ but I found her when she was available, and the Timing was right.”

Sofia and Hartley’s soap opera success made them stars like many Hollywood celebrities. After Hartley departed from The Young and the Restless in 2016, he was cast as Kevin Pearson on This Is Us. The show became a smash hit for NBC and is currently in its sixth and final season.
As for Perna, after her exit from the soap opera in 2017, she worked on several TV shows. Her credits include Jane the Virgin and The Brave and the film The Green Ghost. Currently, she’s starring in the Paramount+ series Blood & Treasure, whose second season premieres on July 17th.
