Soleil Moon Frye Posts Sexy Pic After Filing for Divorce as ‘Punky Brewster’ Reboot Air Date Nears
Peacock heard “they don’t make ’em like they used to” and took it as a challenge. NBC’s streaming service is set to reboot the hit ’80s sitcom Punky Brewster in early 2021 and fans cannot wait. Soleil Moon Frye — the original “Punky” — will be reprising her role and seems to be eagerly anticipating the release as well.
Frye first took on the role at just eight years old. Now, decades later, the actor faces more complex challenges in the show and in life.
The ’80s hit ‘Punky Brewster’ is getting rebooted
Punky Brewster aired only four seasons, with the last two being made in syndication. Still, audiences quickly fell in love with young Penelope “Punky” Brewster — an abandoned eight-year-old who finds her way to a vacant apartment. She easily befriends the other tenants with her kindness and wit. She’s so charming, in fact, that the building’s grumpy manager becomes interested in fostering young Brewster.
Throughout the series, the girl faces legal battles, friendship drama, and plenty of life lessons. Despite its darker premise (with the very first episode seeing Brewster left in a shopping center), the program was absolutely heart-warming and enjoyed by children and adults alike.
The show was so successful that NBC began airing an animated version, It’s Punky Brewster, alongside the original in the ’80s. As NBC’s Peacock streaming service seeks to attract more subscribers, it’s no wonder that they returned to the classic hit. According to People, the latest adventures will continue to follow Brewster, now a single mother of three. The plot takes off when she encounters Izzy, a young girl navigating the foster system just as Brewster had to as a child. As Today notes, the trailer also includes glimpses of Brewster’s children attempting to find her a new love — a challenge that Moon Frye may now relate to.
Star Soleil Moon Frye faces split as the premiere approaches
The holiday season brought heartbreaking news for those close to the Moon Frye family. According to Pop Culture, the actor and husband Jason Goldberg filed for divorce after 22 years of marriage. The decision came just three days after Christmas but was kept quiet and mostly out of the public eye. The couple’s representative was quoted as saying that the pair’s “priority will continue to be their four beautiful children as they move forward with love and compassion.”
The split came as a shock to many. As The Blast reports, the two had been married since 1998 and even renewed their vows in 2008. Although any relationship’s end is undoubtedly devastating, Moon Frye seems to be staying focused on the good and the reboot to come.
Moon Frye is looking toward the future — and looking good while doing it
Though the actor has yet to make any public statements about her divorce, she’s still stayed active on her social media accounts. Her most recent posts have centered around her friends, family, and co-stars, frequently captioned with thanks for their constant support. One especially sassy and sexy photo caught fans’ attention. Her January 9 Instagram appearance features her posed on a stool in front of a white brick wall.
The shot is captioned, “Going into 2021 like this.” It also shouts out her friend and impromptu photographer, Amanda Demme. Though the picture certainly shows off what a catch Moon Frye is, it doesn’t seem to deliberately target her ex-husband. Instead, she makes clear that she is surrounded by a wonderful support system, and we can’t wait to see her continue to shine with her on-screen family.
