On Aug. 5, 2019, SEVENTEEN dropped the song “Hit” as a pre-release single for their album An Ode. The album was released on Sept. 16, 2019, and it is the band’s third studio album.
The K-pop group appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on April 1 and chose to perform “Hit.” S.Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, Vernon, Jeonghan, Joshua, Woozi, DK, Seungkwan, Jun, Hoshi, The8, and Dino performed the song in an outdoor stadium at night.
With a light-up banner advertising The Ellen DeGeneres Show surrounding the stadium, the members of SEVENTEEN danced to the fast-paced choreography wearing sleek all-black outfits.
What the members of SEVENTEEN think of their teamwork
On the official YouTube channel for The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the members of SEVENTEEN took part in a behind-the-scenes video. For the YouTube segment, the band members showed fans what filming the performance was like and discussed their teamwork.
“The fact that all 13 of us were brought together and were able to build such strong teamwork feels like fate,” Wonwoo said.
Woozi added, “We’ve lived together for so long now and spent so much time with each other we’re basically family. So we don’t really think ‘Oh, we have to protect this team and focus on our teamwork.’ I don’t think we’ve come this far with that kind of fixed mindset.”
The K-pop group members take pride in their performances
The members of SEVENTEEN are known for producing their own music, but they are also regarded as one of the best K-pop groups when it comes to live performances.
“… our music also has a visual element to is,” Hoshi said in the behind-the-scenes video. “So you can see and experience it visually. That’s why performances to SEVENTEEN are very important. It’s a crucial component that can’t be left out when it comes to music.”
With their performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the members hoped to bring their trademark energy.
“I hope we’re able to deliver SEVENTEEN’s energy to more people through this performance,” The8 said. “And that people who watch our stage are able to gain some of that strength and energy as well.”
The members also shared why they chose to perform “Hit” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“We thought a lot about how we could show something we’ve never done before and wondered ‘What if we performed ‘Hit’?” Seungkwan said. “So we’ve prepared a very large-scale outdoor stage today.”
He continued, “I hope a lot of people gain strength from our performance on The Ellen Show, and it’d be great if more people learn about us and the energy we bring.”
