‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2′ Trailer Teases ‘Unstoppable’ Action Scenes ‘Sonic Adventure 2’ Fans Will Love
SEGA revealed the final Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer with throwback video game action Sonic Adventure 2 fans will love. Sonic (Ben Schwartz) and Knuckles exchange fierce blows in the trailer, throwing Sonic and Tails from snowy icecaps to a wedding in Hawaii. And the schemes of Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) inject a lot of extra fan service on top of Easter eggs, like James Marsden having a Green Hills Zone theme ringtone.

Whether you call him Dr. Robotnik or Dr. Eggman, Jim Carrey returns with monstrous plans in the new Sonic movie. He goes after the Master Emerald on what looks like Angel Island. He even recruits Knuckles (Idris Elba) the Echidna to help him defeat Sonic.
One of the biggest highlights of the final Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer focused on Sonic snatching a piece of debris and snowboarding down a snowy mountain Sonic Adventure 2-style.
While Sonic has had snowboard gameplay in several games, one of the most iconic comes from the City Escape level of Sonic Adventure 2. When Shadow the Hedgehog frames Sonic for stealing a Chaos Emerald, he flees, snowboarding through city streets.
As Sonic and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) escape Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles, Sonic pulls a similar stunt. However, Idris Elba‘s Knuckles keeps in close pursuit, calling back to his own boarding moves.

While solo Sonic games featured the hedgehog boarding, several Sonic racing games gave his other friends a chance to board.
In games like Sonic Riders and Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, Tails and Knuckles had hoverboards to race and compete.
The final Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer featured Sonic boarding with Sonic Adventure 2 move, but Knuckles pursued close behind. Their fierce fight continued even on the slopes. Knuckles swings a heavy hand and bashes Sonic into a boulder at full speed.
The hedgehog certainly has his work cut out of him.
The poster featured even more SEGA Genesis references
In addition to the final Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer, SEGA revealed a poster with even more references beyond Sonic Adventure 2.
The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 poster on Twitter recreates the American box art for the 1992 Sonic 2, which first introduced the twin-tailed fox Miles “Tails” Prower.
Paramount also announced a special early screening for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. The film releases to the broader audiences in theaters on April 8, 2022.
Besides James Marsden and Jim Carrey, other live-action Sonic the Hedgehog 2 cast includes Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Lee Majdoub. In addition, The Young and the Restless drama actor Shemar Moore plays the fiance seen in the trailer.
