‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ and an Idris Elba Knuckles Show Just Announced From SEGA and Paramount
When Sonic the Hedgehog film helped break the video game movie curse, SEGA and Paramount announced Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Now, before the sequel even released, they confirmed Sonic the Hedgehog 3 had entered development, and an Idris Elba Knuckles show would debut on Paramount+. While the blue blur has had trouble keeping up with Super Mario and Nintendo in recent years, it looks like SEGA is determined to keep him ahead in the cinematic game. They really are leaning into that idea of Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Paramount+ tweeted that ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ and an Idris Elba Knuckles series were on their way
The Paramount+ Twitter posted several announcements after Valentine’s Day. They revealed projects like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Halo: The Series. At around 2 PM EST, they posted an announcement for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and a Knuckles TV show starring Idris Elba (Thor and The Suicide Squad).
“#SonicMovie3 is officially in development from Paramount Pictures and SEGA! Plus, next year, a new original #Knuckles series with Idris Elba is coming to Paramount+. #SonicMovie2 hits theaters April 8!” the Paramount+ Twitter posted.
It did not take long for the post to gain nearly 10,000 likes and 4,000 retweets.
While fans have yet to see Dr. Eggman (Jim Carrey), Sonic, and Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, they already cannot wait to see what else is in store for the Super Mario rival.
While Paramount+ and SEGA did not give ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ a release date, they gave the Idris Elba Knuckles show a release window
Paramount+ reminded fans about the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 release date on April 8, 2022. However, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 confirmed, fans might already want to know when the series officially becomes a trilogy.
While they gave no word on when Sonic the Hedgehog 3 would release, they did give fans an idea of when to expect the Idris Elba Knuckles TV show.
Their tweet mentions that the Knuckles show would debut on Paramount+ “next year,” meaning fans will have to wait until 2023.
That means the show is still a minimum of 10 months away at the earliest. However, SEGA has some other Sonic projects in the works.
‘Sonic Prime’ is a 3D Netflix show dropping in 2022
While fans wait for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the Idris Elba Knuckles show, SEGA plans to release something for fans to enjoy in the meantime.
Airing on Netflix, Sonic Prime will be the first 3D Sonic TV series after Sonic Boom.
A press release stated that Sonic Prime would be a “high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands. Sonic’s adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption.”
From the sounds of it, Doctor Strange won’t be the only character heading into a multiverse of madness in 2022.
Until then, fans can catch Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in theaters on April 8, 2022.
