‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’: Fans Believe New Magazine Cover Confirms Sandman’s Return
As we get closer to the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are getting more anxious to see if their predictions for the film come true. The film features the introduction of the multiverse and the return of Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, and Electro from previous Spider-Man movies. So, fans are wondering who else will come back. Thanks to a magazine cover, fans now believe that another villain, Sandman, will return in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Fans believe Sandman will be one of the villains in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’
Empire Magazine recently released the covers for their October issue, and they are all about Spider-Man: No Way Home. One of the covers features Spider-Man in his costume, with Doctor Octopus’ arms and Green Goblin’s orb in the background. The second cover, though, is where dedicated fans spotted something that confirms Sandman is in the film. Sandman’s arm is seen making a fist and holding it in the air.
Fans took to Twitter to speculate whether or not this image confirms that Sandman is in Spider-Man: No Way Home. One person wrote, “I know we like to kid but this Empire cover really has confirmed Sandman.”
Another fan jokingly tweeted, “‘There’s no way Sandman is really in the movie.'”
Will Sandman be one of the villains Peter faces?
The powers that be behind Spider-Man: No Way Home confirmed that Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, and Electro would all be in the film. Alfred Molina will play Doctor Octopus, the original portrayer of the character in Spider-Man 2. And Jamie Foxx will play Electro, who played the character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. An undisclosed actor will play Green Goblin.
So, Peter will have his hands full with all of these villains. But will Sandman be one of them? In the trailer for the film, some fans thought they spotted Sandman in a blink-and-you-miss-it scene. But nothing was confirmed until the Empire Magazine cover was released.
We last saw Sandman, aka Flint Marko, in Spider-Man 3, portrayed by Thomas Haden Church. Marko was a robber who was trying to support his wife and sick daughter. It’s revealed in the film that Marko killed Uncle Ben. In the end, though, Peter forgives Marko and lets him escape. So, perhaps, Sandman won’t be a villain in Spider-Man: No Way Home. But it might be cooler if he’s a part of the Sinister Six, which is another popular fan theory.
Everything we know about ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’
Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s premise reads, “With Spider-Man’s identity now revealed, our friendly neighborhood web-slinger is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life as Peter Parker from the high stakes of being a superhero. When Peter asks for help from Doctor Strange, the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”
In the trailer for the movie, Peter turns to Doctor Strange for help. He wants to make the world forget he is Spider-Man, but he doesn’t want his loved ones to forget too. Unfortunately, Peter’s tampering with Doctor Strange’s spell seems to break open the multiverse. And that’s where Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus come in.
Spider-Man: No Way Home premieres exclusively in theaters on Dec. 17.
