‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Star Tom Holland Has Had ‘Conversations’ With Marvel and Sony About His Future as Spider-Man
Every Marvel fan is dying to know if Tom Holland will ever play Spider-Man in his own solo movie again. After the raging success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it seems like the actor’s return is a no-brainer. But, so far, neither Marvel nor Sony have made any official announcement. Thanks to Holland, fans know that the studios are at least thinking about what comes next.
Tom Holland completed his MCU trilogy with ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’
Unless they’re Chris Hemsworth playing Thor, Marvel actors tend to get trilogies, and then they leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But even though that likely will not be the case for Tom Holland, Spider-Man: No Way Home felt like it could serve as an end for his character.
Other than celebrating three generations of cinema, the third MCU Spider-Man film featured Peter Parker’s story coming full circle. He has had a different journey than Tobey Maguire’s character or Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man because he exists in an expansive universe where the Avengers are constantly fighting massive battles. But Spider-Man: No Way Home left off with Peter in a similar situation to where Maguire and Garfield’s characters began.
No one knows who Peter is, and he is just a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man living in a crappy apartment. Even though fans want to see Peter reunite with MJ and Ned, this potential ending was more than satisfactory. Of course, no one would turn down seeing Tom Holland suit up as Spider-Man in future movies, though.
Tom Holland reveals he’s had talks with executives regarding his return as Spider-Man
While promoting his latest film Uncharted, Tom Holland discussed his future in the MCU with Entertainment Weekly.
“We’ve had conversations about the potential future of Spider-Man, but at the moment, they are conversations,” the actor shared. “We don’t know what the future looks like.”
He added that he believes Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman, and producer Amy Pascal are “thinking of something … But at this moment, I don’t know what that is.”
But Tom Holland’s not as focused on the future since he’s currently trying to enjoy the triumph that is Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor said he’s “not really thinking about the future. I’m still riding the wave of the success of the film and enjoying that.”
The actor will appear in at least one more Marvel film
At the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere, Tom Rothman discussed Sony’s plans with Tom Holland with ComicBook.com.
“No specific plans,” Rothman said. “But it’s reciprocal. We lend one, then [Marvel Studios] lends one, and that’s how Benedict [Cumberbatch] is in this movie. So we have one more lend back that is committed.”
He added, “But the thing that I can say, and this is actually the accurate scoop on this, which is that the two companies have a terrific working relationship, and I think it’s a mutual hope that that would continue. But there really isn’t anything definitive at this moment because the truth of the matter is we gotta ride this puppy and see what happens.”
So, Tom Holland will pop up as Spider-Man in one more MCU movie. Whether that’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or another film is up for debate. For now, Marvel is clearly keeping the actor’s appearance in the mysterious movie hush-hush.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters.
