Black Widow didn’t quite take the box office by storm like Spider-Man: No Way Home, but it still gave us Florence Pugh’s Yelena. After stealing the show with Kate Bishop in Hawkeye, many fans want more of Yelena/Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And based on Spider-Man and Black Widow’s history in Marvel comics, we might get to see Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and Pugh’s Yelena team up.

Black Widow and Spider-Man started as enemies in Marvel comics

Marvel has more than a few heroes operating in New York. In the recent Marvel Cinematic Universe titles alone, Clint Barton and Kate Bishop took on Kingpin in Hawkeye. And then Black Widow Yelena showed up in New York to fight Jeremy Renner’s Avenger. In addition, Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire‘s Peter Parkers fought to save the Multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Fans might wonder whether Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man and Pugh’s Black Widow will ever team up in the Marvel movies. And if they can’t wait, they can always turn to the comics.

The heroes have a long history in the comics, including a time when Black Widow was seen as a female version of the webhead. They originally appeared together in Amazing Spider-Man #86 by Stan Lee, John Romita Sr., and Jim Mooney. They started as enemies but became allies over the years. And they even teamed up to fight the Sinister Six.

‘Amazing Spider-Man #684’ pit Spider-Man and Black Widow against the Sinister Six

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Holland’s hero asked Doctor Strange to erase some people’s knowledge of Peter Parker. However, when the spell went wrong, it brought Willem Dafoe‘s Green Goblin and Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Spider-Man villains often team up in Marvel comics as the Sinister Six.

In Amazing Spider-Man #684, Spider-Man, Black Widow, and Silver Sable all fight Doc Ock, Mysterio, The Rhino, and more. They aren’t able to defeat them all but manage to take down the Sandman.

This particular story did not involve most of Spider-Man’s side characters. So if it were to be adapted to screen, it would fit well with the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Peter decided not to reconnect with Zendaya’s MJ.

‘Marvel Team-Up #57’ has them fight the Silver Samurai

In Marvel Team-Up #57, Spider-Man and Black Widow take on an armored foe with plenty of explosions.

The duo face off against the Silver Samurai. Spidey runs out of web fluid partway through the fight and has to figure out other means of battling the fierce enemy.

For now, fans might have to wait a while before seeing more action from Holland’s Spider-Man and Pugh’s Black Widow. But it’s not out of the question to think they might cross paths in future MCU projects.
