Nintendo Switch players have eagerly awaited updates about Splatoon 3, and now they have a new trailer to unpack. The first look ramps up excitement about the much-anticipated Switch sequel ahead of its release date — and Nintendo has revealed when we can expect Splatoon 3 as well.
‘Splatoon 3’ slated for September release date
The trailer for Splatoon 3 is no doubt exciting, but fans have been waiting for news of a release date — and it has officially dropped! The much-anticipated sequel will arrive on Sept. 9, 2022. Although many were hoping for a summer launch, this isn’t too far off. And it squashes reports of delays, giving fans something to look forward to later this year.
In the lead-up to the game’s launch, fans can check out the new trailer. It shows off a colorful Turf War that may remind players of the previous two installments. However, it does work in a new backdrop and weapon.
The Nintendo Switch game just got a colorful new trailer
Splatoon 3 received a trailer alongside its release date announcement, and it spends its nearly four-minute run on a Turf War battle. As such, it doesn’t offer many details about the upcoming sequel. However, per a press release from Nintendo, it does tease a new stage for such action — and a new weapon:
“In Splatoon 3, online* 4-v-4 Turf War battles can create heated matches across a mix of new and returning stages, where teams of four face off to cover the most ground in their ink. Newly uncovered footage provides insight on one of these new stages, Eeltail Alley, along with a look at the stringer – a new bow-shaped weapon type that enables you to sling ink sideways and vertically.”
Those features certainly give players something to be excited about, and they aren’t the only new perks headed their way. Although the trailer doesn’t show off every new facet of the game, Nintendo teased several other developments in its announcement.
What else is coming to ‘Splatoon 3’?
In addition to the release date and new features shown in the trailer, Splatoon 3 will also contain a new single-player storyline and a new Salmon Run mode. Nintendo’s press release dives into what both will entail:
“In the single-player story mode, you’ll join Agent 3 in a fight against the unruly Octarians and discover the secrets of a mysterious place called Alterna and the Fuzzy Ooze. When diving into Salmon Run, you’ll ink up with teammates to fend off waves of dangerous Salmonid bosses, some of which are colossal in size!”
All in all, it sounds like there’s a lot to look forward to when September arrives. And that’s not to mention the other exciting games coming to Nintendo Switch later this year — including Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. If one thing is certain, it’s this: it’s a good year to be a gamer.
