Following the success of her Grammy Award-winning country-pop album Golden Hour, Musgraves debuted the 2021 release Star-Crossed. This came with singles “Justified” and “Star-Crossed,” as well as a visual album released exclusively on

“I just had this vision of, like, telling the story of a modern romance gone wrong,” Musgraves said during an interview with The Current. “A tragedy, if you will, set to modern rhythms and having some modern textures in there too.”

“The synth, and the keys and a lot of that kind of stuff, but then like having it stay really warm with like the classical guitar, the acoustics, some steel, some of those elements too,” she continued. “So it’s really just this big, like, patchwork quilt, but I feel like it really represents me and what I’m into. It’s all over the place.”

The film version of Star-Crossed included several celebrity cameos, including one from Haunting of Hill House actor Pedretti.

“Kacey reached out to me, and I literally threw my phone across the room,” Pedretti said during an interview with Elle

With Petretti remaining a private person with regards to social media, it’s unclear if these artists ever met before Pedretti’s Star-Crossed cameo. Musgraves often showcases her celebrity friendships with her music

Following their RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars 4 win, Trinity the Tuck and Monét X Change danced on stage to “High Horse.” Musgraves also performed “You’re Still the One” by Shania Twain live with Harry Styles.
