Star Wars ‘Ahsoka’ Spoilers: Casting Rumors and the Return Of Padawan Enemies
The Star Wars Ahsoka series is one of the most anticipated in the franchise. Starring Rosario Dawson as the titular character, the live-action Disney+ series still doesn’t have a production or release date. However, new rumors about casting and the return of several characters has the fandom buzzing. Let’s take a look at what we know.
[Spoiler Alert: Potential spoilers for Star Wars Ahsoka are up ahead]
Star Wars ‘Ahsoka’ may feature the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger
Epicstream reports that the Star Wars Ahsoka series may feature the return of many beloved characters.
Prior to her appearance in The Mandalorian, fans last saw Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan in the animated Rebels series. That series introduced fans to characters like Sabine Wren, Ezra Bridger, and Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Lucasfilm and Disney are notoriously tight-lipped about the show’s development. But fans believe that Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger will return in the live-action series.
Who will be cast in those roles?
LRM reports that the Star Wars Ahsoka series will feature two well-known actors in the beloved character roles. Fans of Star Wars will recall that LRM exclusively broke other casting news in the past. This has made them a reliable source of information.
Now, LRM is saying that Mena Massoud will be playing Ezra Bridger. Massoud is best known for his role in the live-action version of Aladdin. He played the titular character.
Meanwhile, veteran actor Lars Mikkelsen will be playing Grand Admiral Thrawn. Mikkelsen’s brother, Mads, played Galen Erso in the Star Wars film Rogue One. However, it must be stated that nothing has yet been confirmed by Lucasfilm or Disney.
Is the show merely a ‘Rebels’ sequel?
Since production and filming have not yet started on the Star Wars Ahsoka series, storyline possibilities are still up in the air.
However, Inside the Magic believes that the show will be a sequel to the animated Rebels series. The Rebels series took place approximately five years before the events of A New Hope (aka Episode IV). And, at this point in the timeline, it’s about five years after the events of Return of the Jedi (aka Episode VI).
“Dawson’s Ahsoka is likely to be hunting down Thrawn in order to find Ezra, which means both of the characters’ live-action debuts are likely to be imminent — reportedly, Thrawn has already been cast for months,” they write. “If that’s not enough to suggest that the Ahsoka Tano series may serve as Rebels follow-up or sequel, another actor has recently alluded to her involvement in the upcoming Disney+ series.”
