‘Star Wars’: Did Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford Ever Date?
Han Solo and Princess Leia may have a romance for the ages, but did Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford ever date behind the scenes of Star Wars? As it turns out, the co-stars had a powerful dynamic even after the cameras stopped rolling. Keep reading to find out more about their fascinating relationship.
Carrie Fisher grew infatuated with Harrison Ford throughout ‘Star Wars’
As it turns out, Fisher grew to have powerful feelings for her co-star. But considering the age difference between them (he was 15 years her senior) and the fact that Ford was already married, she never expected the two to have a romantic relationship.
“He was just so far out of my league,” she wrote in her memoir, The Princess Diarist. “Compared to him, I didn’t even have an actual verifiable league. We were destined for different places.”
She continued, adding, “If Harrison and I went to prom together, no one would believe it. ‘What’s he doing with her?’ Captain of the football team and president of the cool literary club? What’s he doing with cutie-pie sweetcheeks, with the troll doll collection and Cary Grant obsession? Must be a glitch in the machine…”
Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford had an affair while filming ‘Star Wars’
Fisher and Ford had an affair while filming the first ‘Star Wars’ movie. She became utterly enamored with the actor, yet at the same time felt a “feeling of hopelessness” because she knew their fling wouldn’t go anywhere. It couldn’t. Ford was already married to someone else, and she never got the sense that he had any true romantic interest in her.
Their affair began at George Lucas’s 32nd birthday party.
During the celebration, Fisher was pressured by the crew members of the film to get drunk. She suspected they wanted to take advantage of her, and she reveals in her memoir that she felt a sense of “danger.” Yet luckily, Ford was there to save the day when he pulled her out of the situation, and into the backseat of his car.
It was there that he began to kiss Fisher.
After that incident, she grew infatuated with her co-star.
And according to the actress, she developed true feelings for him during their affair. As much as she tried to deny her love for Ford, she couldn’t suppress her feelings for long.
“I kept it from myself for almost two months now, calling it everything from physical to a big mistake,” Fisher wrote in her memoir. “Not that it wasn’t those things, it was, but when I ‘gave myself to him’ – I gave myself for a while, not just for a good time.”
Carrie Fisher still wanted to be with Harrison Ford in 2016
Fisher boldly stated in her 2016 memoir The Princess Diarist that it wasn’t too late for “Carrison.” She implied that she would still be willing to make it work with Ford, yet she wasn’t confident that he would reciprocate her feelings.
“So while there’s still time for Carrison to grow old together, that gateway is steadily closing,” she wrote. “If we’re going to get back together, we’re going to have to do it soon. And getting back together with someone you were never truly with is, to say the least, complicated. But absolutely worth the effort. Or not. I’ll probably regret writing this, but if you have the impulse to yell at me, please don’t. Periodically, I feel guilty enough on my own. My hopes aren’t high, and neither, as it happens, am I.”
