He was a powerful Jedi Master and a voice of reason for characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker. During the original Star Wars trilogy, though, Yoda died and became “one with the Force.”

How old was Yoda when he died? Here’s what we know about this character and the other character of his species — Grogu from the Disney+ original series, The Mandalorian

Yoda is one of the best-known characters from ‘Star Wars’

This character encouraged Star Wars fans across the galaxy to “do or do not. There is no try.” Fans first met Master Yoda in the original Star Wars trilogy, when he trained Luke Skywalker after Obi-Wan Kenobi’s death.

He later played a large role in the prequel trilogy and made a brief cameo in the sequel trilogy, providing support for Luke Skywalker and Rey. Just how old was this Jedi when he died, though?

How old was Master Yoda when he died?

It wasn’t lightsaber battles that resulted in the death of the Jedi Master, Yoda. This character physically aged from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith to the final movie of the original trilogy. Those movies, in terms of the galaxy far, far away, were set 18 years apart from each other.

According to Star Wars Fandom, “Yoda died of old age and became one with the Force in 4 ABY, shortly before Luke redeemed his father Anakin, who fulfilled his destiny as the Chosen One by killing Sidious.”

According to Gizmodo, when Yoda dies in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, he’s around 900 years old. He, of course, aged much differently from humans and played an integral role in the prequel trilogy, leading the Jedi Council. This aging difference is even more apparent with the character Grogu from The Mandalorian.

Fans met another character of Yoda’s species with ‘The Mandalorian’

Star Wars viewers became very familiar with Master Yoda. However, with the Disney+ original series, The Mandalorian, fans met another character of the same species as Master Yoda. That was the force-wielding “Child,” who fans learned was named Grogu.

Although Grogu is just a baby, this character was reportedly 50-years-old when the show debuted. It’s this aging system of the species that confuses the Bounty Hunter at first. He does have the force and can communicate with other Jedis.

However, it’s still unclear if this “Child” ever met the Jedi Master from the original trilogy. Presumably, fans will learn more about this character with the third season of the Star Wars original, which is set to premiere on Disney’s streaming platform.

Season 3 of The Mandalorian is expected to premiere sometime during Fall 2021. Until then, fans can watch episodes exclusively on Disney’s streaming service. Star Wars movies, including A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and The Last Jedi, also are available for streaming on Disney+.
