‘Star Wars’: The Rise of Skywalker’: John Boyega Will Never Appear in a Disney+ Spin-Off—Here’s What Fans Hope He Will Do Instead
With the premiere of any Star Wars movie, controversy soon follows. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was no different. The film divided the critics and the fans down the middle. Viewers also began calling for the J. J. Abrams director’s cut of the movie, when they found out many scenes didn’t make it into the film.
The latest star to be on the receiving end of controversy is John Boyega who stars as Finn. Let’s take a look at why the 27-year-old English actor will never work on a Disney+ series, and what fans are calling for him to do next, instead.

John Boyega made an offensive comment on Instagram that angered fans
The controversy began when the star responded to a fan on Instagram who suggested the door was now open for Finn with the death of Ben Solo (Adam Driver) in the new movie.
“It’s not about who she kisses but who eventually lays the pipe,” Boyega commented. “You are a genius.”
The response soon went viral, with fans calling Boyega everything from “gross” to “sexist” and everything in between.
The actor responded in several different ways on Twitter and Instagram. He defended his comment, claiming it was regarding fictional characters, not Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey. The star indicated that he was not talking about women in general.
Luckily, the whole controversy did not turn him off to social media as it did with Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran. Both women closed their Instagram and Twitter accounts following harassment from fans.
Here’s why Boyega will never appear on a Disney+ spin-off of ‘Star Wars’
Disney+ is rapidly churning out hit Star Wars TV series. The first of these is The Mandalorian which brought about the fan-favorite Baby Yoda. There are at least two more shows coming out in the next few years, one starring Obi-Wan Kenobi. So, why won’t Boyega consider starring on the small screen?
“You ain’t going to Disney Plus me!” the actor told Variety with a laugh.
The actor plans to remain on the big screen.
“I ain’t getting no Disney Plus!” he continued. “I’m watching it, though, but I’ll stay in the feature films.”
On the other hand, Boyega might be interested in making another Star Wars movie, but only if Ridley and Oscar Isaac—who plays Poe Dameron—are involved as well. The star wants to make films, not television shows.
What are fans hoping Boyega will take on next?
Viewers are particularly happy that Boyega did not close his social media accounts because they find him hilarious. The latest clip is of the star walking through the streets of New York City, talking to street vendors. Boyega jokes about trying to pay with the pound and rocking costume jewelry and “Guccci” with three “c” s.
“John, comedy is you’re forte this 2020,” wrote one Instagram user.
This one comment received 582 likes and numerous replies in agreement. Some fans compared the star to American comedians.
“I absolutely agree! His Instagram rivals Will Smith for me,” added another fan. “[It is] sheer entertainment.”
If fans can’t get more of Boyega on the small screen, they want to see him do some stand-up comedy in 2020. While we don’t know if the star is up for this, we do know you can catch more laughs by following his Instagram account.
