‘Stargirl’: Will Beth and Rick Become a Couple in Season 2?
Romance has never been a focal point in The CW‘s Stargirl. But it’s hard to ignore some of the seeds that have been planted for future romances in the show. Courtney and Cameron are crushing on each other, despite their star-crossed lover narrative. And the only other couple we have truly seen are Pat and Barbara, who had a few marital problems back in Stargirl Season 1.
But there is one couple that fans have been dying to see happen. Will season 2 be the right time for Beth and Rick to explore something more between them?
Beth and Rick’s comic book history
Beth Chapel and Rick Tyler have a rich history in DC Comics. As Doctor Mid-Nite and Hourman, they developed a relationship that has always been a favorite among fans.
As seen in Stargirl, Beth and Rick are very much the antitheses of one another. Beth is the cheery, positive, and intelligent one, while Rick is the gruff, introverted loner. They fit the very definition of the opposites attract trope.
It seems as though their relationship did not last very long because Eclipso eventually killed Beth. Let’s hope that the two of them have better luck in Stargirl than they did in the comic books.
Will there be time for romance in ‘Stargirl’ Season 2?
Beth and Rick have not shared many scenes with just the two of them in Stargirl. But given their comic book history, it seems like it should only be a matter of time before fans catch lingering looks and the question of something more between the two of them.
According to ComicBook.com, when asked about romances in the show, showrunner Geoff Johns said, “The slow-developing romance in the show is just part of the show. It’s the show’s storytelling,. And I’d say in the case of, like, Rick and Beth, that relationship is a very deep relationship and, where it goes, we’ll play it out in the seasons. And Courtney and Cameron will also play this out. But there’ll be more romance coming up as the series unfolds.”
Since Stargirl is already renewed for season 3, it’s safe to say that fans will not get a definite answer regarding the Beth and Rick relationship in season 2. The show is already 5 episodes into its new season, and there are 8 episodes left. The only potential couple that is getting much screentime is Courtney and Cameron. It’s obvious that there is something romantic between the two of them. Whereas with Beth and Rick, fans will have to pay closer attention to see the signs for a romance.
In the last couple of episodes, there have been instances where Rick sticks up for Beth or reassures her that she can confide in him. Perhaps there will be more obvious hints toward a romance between the two of them in future episodes. But, for now, fans will have to be patient and enjoy the slow burn of Beth and Rick.
What is the JSA facing in ‘Stargirl’ Season 2?
Stargirl Season 2 has heavily focused on the new bad guy in Blue Valley — Eclipso. It’s difficult for the members of the JSA to focus on romance when they are facing such a huge threat.
Eclipso is pure evil and will not hesitate to murder children. He has no moral compass, and the danger he presents is quite scary for Stargirl‘s superheroes.
With Eclipso’s arrival, the tone of Stargirl has shifted to a darker one. The episodes have progressively gotten scarier as the JSA comes closer to finding Eclipso. It might be a while before fans see Eclipso’s physical form, though.
