On May 14, Station 19 will air its final episode of season 3. The Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spinoff has had an extraordinary run. So naturally, fans are wondering when the Shondaland series will return for its next all-new episode. So when is the Station 19 Season 4 premiere release date? The ABC drama has been renewed. However, it’s possible the show will come back later than expected due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Update at the bottom.

‘Station 19’ has been renewed for season 4

On March 11, Deadline reported ABC renewed Station 19 for its fourth season. The pickup came after the spinoff series received its most-watched season. It also became the No. 1 program in the Thursday 8 p.m. ET time slot in the 18-49 demo.

“[Showrunner] Krista Vernoff is a sharp, superb storyteller and we’re so grateful to her – along with the talented cast and crew – for all they’ve done to make Station 19 thrive this season,” ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said. “This addictive, rich show is hitting series highs this year for a reason, and we can’t wait to deliver more great stories to our passionate audience.”

As of this write-up, ABC has yet to announce the Station 19 Season 4 premiere date. The third season started its 16-episode run in January 2020. Meanwhile, the series premiere debuted in March 2018, and the second season began airing in October 2018.

For now, Station 19 fans are hoping the fourth season will return in fall 2020 or early 2021. But at this point, fans need to hold on until the network unveils the release date for season 4.

Nevertheless, it seems production for Station 19 Season 4 could be halted due to the coronavirus. As you may know, Hollywood production has been shut down since mid-March 2020 because of the current crisis. Luckily, the third season of Station 19 was completed before this happened. So viewers received the full season as intended. But even so, no one knows how the shutdown will affect the forthcoming season.

When speaking with Entertainment Tonight in May 2020, Boris Kodjoe — who plays Robert Sullivan — revealed he doesn’t know when the Station 19 team will be able to get back to work for season 4.

“We don’t know when we’re going back to work yet,” Kodjoe said. “It’s about safety. For a lot of these Hollywood studios, liability’s a huge issue so when you have two or 300 people on a stage working on a movie or on a TV show, the risk of infection is huge and plus, you cannot quarantine them 24/7.”

He continued, “They come to work for 12 hours and then they go home into their communities, so they have to figure out a way to protect everybody. The basis of everything is testing obviously and as long as we’re not testing consistently in a very wide way, broad way, I don’t see us coming back to work anytime soon.”

The release date for Station 19 Season 4 may be up in the air, but fans will be relieved to hear the team is holding off until the situation is safe for everyone involved. Regardless, we know the writers will cook up a few storylines that will make the hiatus worthwhile.
