‘Station 19’ Season 5 Cast: Who Will Return to the Series? Plus 1 Cast Upgrade
The Station 19 cast finally returns for season 5 for a crossover event with Grey’s Anatomy Season 18. Unlike the medical drama, the firefighter cast remains mostly the same each season. Eight cast members who began with the drama in 2018 return to the series, including fan favorites Jason George and Jaina Lee Ortiz.
Who returns to the cast for ‘Station 19’ Season 5?
When Jaina Lee Ortiz returns for the Station 19 premiere 2021, her character, Andy Herrera, is not happy with Robert Sullivan (Boris Kodjoe). In the Station 19 Season 4 finale last season, he threw station captain Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre) under the bus. When Savre returns to her role this season, her character finds out she was demoted, and there is a new captain in her place — Beckett.
When Okieriete Onaodowan returns to the cast as Dean Miller, his character finally comes to terms with his love for Victoria Hughes (Barrett Doss). Meanwhile, Hughes’ character still has no idea how intense Dean’s affection is for her.
Jay Hayden returns to the Station 19 Season 5 cast as Travis Montgomery, hopefully with a new outlook on his relationships. In the finale, his 63-year-old father told Travis that he fell in love with the man he was dating. The confession inspired Travis to tell Emmett Dixon (Lachlan Buchanan) how he feels about him. Although Emmit insisted they could not be together, the pair locked lips in the bathroom anyway. Buchanan also returns to his role, so season 5 could see the couple back together.
In Station 19, Season 4 viewers worried that Jack Gibson might leave the show, but Grey Damon returns for season 5. He tried to tell Inara (Colleen Foy) that he wanted to move to California with her, but she insisted he remains in Seattle.
As the original spinoff character from Grey’s Anatomy, Jason George returns to Station 19 as Ben Warren. When viewers last saw him, he and Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) danced happily at Maya and Carina DeLuca’s (Stefania Spampinato) wedding. He agreed to let go of his third and fourth opinion appointments for his testicular cancer and instead started living his life.
Season 5 includes a more significant role for Carlos Miranda as Theo Ruiz
The Station 19 producers promoted Carlos Miranda to series regular for his role as Theo Ruiz in the upcoming season. When viewers left off, Theo was Vic’s new romantic love interest. However, Vic doesn’t know about Dean’s love for her. So, there’s an exciting love triangle brewing with that series upgrade for Ruiz.
“There’s a storm a-coming,” Doss told ETOnline. “Vic is at a point in her life where she’s ready to make some more adult decisions, and when faced with an embarrassment of riches, I feel like she’s got a lot of choices, and she’s ultimately going to have to make one.”
Plus, the added storyline following Theo Ruiz is his history with Travis’ husband, Michael. Travis and Michael married in 2012, but Michael died in 2016. In Station 19 Season 1, viewers found out that Michael was also a firefighter, but his death was tied to inexperience on the part of his captain. It turns out that Theo Ruiz was that captain that Travis blames for the death of the love of his life.
“There’s still so much to explore and that relationship and the consequences of that relationship with Travis’ best friend. There’s a lot of love stories to tell here,” Miranda added to the outlet.
Station 19 Season 5 Episode 1 premieres on Sept. 30 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC as part of a crossover event with Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 premiere.
