‘Station 19’ Season 5 Episode 16 recap: Is Andy Herrera leaving?

ABC’s Station 19 lost one cast member in season 5 — Okieriete Onaodowan chose to leave the series. Viewers worry that Andy could leave Station 19 because of the charges against her; however, rest assured that she won’t go down without a fight. Andy pleads not guilty when Judge H. Pendleton informs her of the manslaughter charge. He sets bail at $100,000.  Then Andy reads the enormous amount of comments on the newspaper articles about her. Most blame her for being a tease and say that “the world’s no longer safe for men.” Thankfully, Vic stays with Andy to support her after the assault and charges.

Vic tells Andy that Natasha Ross assigned Theo Ruiz to Station 19 after the closing of Station 23. However, the fire chief did not give an assignment to Andy yet.

At first, Natasha and Andy discuss how hard it is for women to move up in the world. Then Andy insists to Natasha that she’s anxious to get back to work. However, the policy is that a firefighter charged with a felony is not allowed to work. Natasha informs her that she is on temporary suspension pending the outcome of a trial. But Andy insists it’s the system that is broken because she’s a woman of color. Andy is not leaving the TV series Station 19, but she is suspended from being a firefighter at the station until the trial is over.

Andy’s mom returns in ‘Station 19’ Season 5 Episode 16

Robert Sullivan thanks Vic Hughes for keeping Andy company as Elena, Andy’s mother, comes searching for her in Station 19 Season 5 Episode 16. Sullivan and Vic are shocked to hear that she is Andy’s mother. Sullivan talks to her about whether it’s a good idea for her to see Andy. Elena insists its for support. She shows up at Andy’s home and her daughter is happy to see her and have mother’s shoulder to cry on. Elena reveals that a fellow firefighter also sexually assaulted her. She praises Andy for fighting the man off. Elena never told anyway because her coworkers told her it would only make the fire department look terrible. Andy worries that being on leave from the station is already a guilty verdict. Then her mother makes her dance to get out of her head.

Then Jack shows up with flowers for Carina and Maya (Danielle Savre) to awkwardly celebrate their official invitro fertilization date. However, they don’t head to hospital. As many fans were worried about, they elect for a home insemination. Right as Jack is about to donate his sperm, his genetic testing app alerts him that he has a brother.

Carina worries that Jack shouldn’t be the donor now that he has a family. However, Maya talks her into following through. Then Carina cries through everything and runs into Jack while he’s holding the cup of sperm. Maya finally gets Carina in the mood and grabs the sperm.

Pat Healy returns to ‘Station 19’ — Michael Dixon runs for mayor

A disturbing scene in Station 19 Season 5 Episode 16 occurs when the firefighters watch former corrupt fire chief Michael Dixon run for mayor. The situation truly bothers Travis; although Ruiz thought he was bummed about the breakup with Emmett Dixon (Lachlan Buchanon), Michael’s son.

Beckett assigns 19 for search and rescue at a fire call. They discover a security guard and it looks like a sweat shop. Pablo admits that there’s a hidden room on a second floor with people trapped inside. Although the owner of the building swears there is no one in there, Travis and Theo find the hidden room locked and break out the women.

Mai explains that the women aren’t allowed outside the building, so she had a sewing accident stitched up inside. When Michael Dixon shows up, Travis tells the fire chief that the women are being held hostage. However, Dixon insists they have a right to tell their side of the story, like the owner of the building does. They are taking them to Seattle Grace Memorial Hospital and hooking them up with an immigration attorney. However, Travis believes the fire fighters aren’t doing enough to help them.

Theo calms Travis down by telling an odd animal story about a snake. The only way to take down Dixon is to use his brain not his rage. Will Travis run for office against Dixon? It was suggested.

In the last ten minutes, Natasha tells Sullivan he’s blurring the lines of personal and professional.

According to IMDbStation 19 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC, before Grey’s Anatomy.
