‘Station 19’ Season 5 Episode 9 opens with a new fire chief
When Station 19 Season 5 Episode 9 returns on Feb. 24, 2022, the series has a new cast member. Captain Beckett (Josh Randall) introduces the new Fire Chief Natasha Ross to 19. Robert Sullivan knows the new chief from 15 years ago.
Andy Herrera’s initial thoughts are that she likes the new chief. However, Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre) is worried that the chief doesn’t know how rough the year has been. Theo Ruiz (Carlos Miranda) worries that he and Vic Hughes (Barrett Doss) are not still together, even though he loves her.
Her first order as chief was to approve Ben Warren and Jack Gibson’s (Grey Damon) new initiative, but the funding is barely enough to get things started. Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato) encourages the two men to get mad and let their feelings out.
Vic Hughes shows up at the station to get her blood pressure checked after the rest of the team leaves on a fire call. Jack, Carina, and Vic are available when a 12-year-old girl, Jenny, and her younger brother show up at the station for help. They are afraid to go to the hospital because their mother went there and never came home.
Does Owen Hunt die in ‘Station 19?’
Both Station 19 and Station 23 get a call about an SUV that went over Leon’s Ridge. Moments later, Ben receives a call that Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) was in the vehicle when it crashed and fell down the side of the mountain. When the firefighters arrive at the scene, Andy Herrera is in charge. She directs Ruiz to head down slowly and agrees to send help down in waves.
However, in true Ben Warren fashion, he disobeys orders and heads down the ridge to save his friend. He runs into Sullivan, who lectures him on not ever listening. They find the vehicle driver had been thrown from the vehicle but didn’t have a pulse.
Hunt is alive when Warren and Sullivan find him in the vehicle. They assess the situation, and Maya begins cutting into the SUV. Sullivan talks Hunt through it by referencing his time as a soldier. The team safely gets Owen out of the car and hoists him up to the AID car. However, Ben joins the lift, which is evidently against protocol. Andy shakes her head at him, but luckily they make it safely to the road. Herrera and Beckett instruct Warren that he is not going with Hunt to the hospital. The chief is impressed with Herrera leading the team. When Station 19 Season 5 Episode 9 ended, Owen Hunt was alive and heading to Grey Sloan Memorial. The rest of Hunt’s story will continue in the second half of the Grey’s Anatomy Station 19 crossover event.
‘Station 19’: What is wrong with Vic Hughes?
After the two kids leave Station 19, Carina checks out Vic. Her blood pressure is acceptable, but her heart rate is elevated, so Carina insists Vic head to the emergency room. At first, Vic doesn’t want to go, but Carina insists. When she assesses her at the hospital, Carina finds out that Vic is healthy, but she is pregnant. Who is the father of Vic’s baby? It’s probably Ruiz, but this is Shondaland, so it’s anyone’s guess.
‘Station 19’ Season 5 Episode 9: After the rescue
The new chief asks Travis Montgomery (Jay Hayden) if he would be interested in the leadership track, and he’s not into it at all. Later, he worries that Vic should be at the station, not at home.
Andy confronts Ben about his mental health. She informs him that he’s spiraling “out of control” and letting it affect his work.
The new fire chief promotes Andy Sullivan to captain after watching the team for the day. He walks out and complains to Natasha for promoting him because they “knew each other in a different life.” Were Andy and Natasha a couple 15 years ago? It seems like it; however, viewers will have to wait until Station 19 Season 5 Episode 10 to find out more about their past.
