What’s the Status of ‘The Chi’ Season 5?
The Chi premiered on Showtime in 2018 and was met with much praise for its writing, acting, and depiction of life in Chicago. The show was created by Lena Waithe and follows a group of characters whose lives become entangled following a tragedy in their community. It stars actors Jacob Latimore, Curtiss Cook, Kandi Burruss, Kevin Williams, Luke James, Jason Weaver, and others.
The latest season of The Chi brought new challenges to everyone, resulting in a finale that left viewers eager to find out what happens to them next. Showtime has renewed ‘The Chi’
Waithe announced Showtime had renewed The Chi after the show’s season 4 finale on Aug. 1.
“Season 5 of The Chi is coming. It is done. It is written,” she said during a live conversation on Instagram, thanking viewers for their support. “You’ve been going with us. The Chi has been a journey. We’ve learned a lot. We’ve grown a lot. And these characters have grown with us. We’ve yelled at them, we’ve done silly things with them, we’ve watched them go from babies to young men and young ladies.”
“We’re really grateful. Yes, Season 5 is coming,” she continued, noting the writers room would open the following month, in September.
The comments are one of the last known updates regarding the fifth season of The Chi. If everything went according to plan, that means the show is likely still in the early stages of production. But even so, Deadline previously reported that The Chi would return in 2022.
What happened in ‘The Chi’ Season 4 finale
In the latest episode of The Chi, Douda fled Chicago after Trig threatened to leak the video of the attack on Marcus. The last time viewers saw him, he was being dropped off at a location out of town. However, showrunner and executive producer Justin Hillian teased that’s not the last of him.
“What I would definitely say is: Never underestimate Otis Perry,” he told TVLine. But he admitted that Douda lost this round. “He overplayed his hand. It didn’t work out. But I would have a hard time believing that he would give up quite so easily,” he continued.
He also told the website that in season 5, he would like to continue digging into the neighborhood watch program that Trig started.
“We definitely want to continue to show what the possibilities could be for the neighborhood and for people looking after one another,” he continud. “Lena [Waithe, executive producer] has very little interest in dealing with the police at all. So ideally, we’d be able to completely remove them and have the community deal with its own issues, because the show has always been about the community.”
Who would be back in the cast of ‘The Chi’ Season 5?
As far The Chi Season 5 cast, it seems safe to assume the main actors will return. But when it comes to supporting actors, such as Tabitha Brown, who played Octavia, a woman who tried to adopt Kiesha’s son, it’s unclear if they’ll be back.
