Bridgerton has taken the world by storm in recent days, and it’s launched the career of star Regé-Jean Page. The actor has gained a legion of fans ever since the Netflix series premiered on Christmas Day. And they’re already talking about what roles he could play next.

Many are already voicing their support for Page to be the next James Bond. And he just hinted that he wants to be the next 007. Could the Bridgerton star beat out Sam Heughan and Charlie Hunnam for the coveted role?

‘Bridgerton’ fans believe Regé-Jean Page would be a perfect replacement for Daniel Craig

James Bond fans are still waiting for Daniel Craig’s final turn as James Bond in No Time To Die. The film was supposed to hit theaters in the spring of 2020, but the pandemic pushed the film’s release back to April 2021.

While fans wait for the next film, the speculation has been rampant over who will replace Daniel Craig as 007. Everyone from Tom Hardy to Idris Elba has had their name mentioned. But in recent days, Page’s name has seemingly shot to the top of the list.

As Cinema Blend points out, fans on social media believe that the British and Zimbabwean actor would be the perfect choice for Craig’s replacement.

“Ok I’m calling it: Regé-Jean Page as the new James Bond. Because, well, just watch Bridgerton and tell me I’m wrong,” one fan wrote. Another added, “I swear to God I don’t spend all my time thinking about the next James Bond casting (just 5% tops). Why isn’t Regé-Jean Page from Bridgerton it? He’d be great.”

The ‘Bridgerton’ star hinted he’s interested in being the next James Bond

For many of the 63 million fans who have already watched Bridgerton season 1, all they had to do was see Page as the Duke of Hastings to come to the conclusion that he should be the next James Bond. On social media, some have connected the aloof, complex character Page plays on the Netflix series to a modern interpretation of 007.

For others, the idea sparked when they saw a well-timed tweet from Page that featured a Bridgerton promo from Netflix. In the caption, Page simply wrote, “Regency, royalty. Shaken and stirred. #Bridgerton.”

Between fan reaction to Bridgerton and Page’s supposed interest in the role of James Bond, the 31-year-old actor now leads the bookie’s favorites. According to The Daily Mail, Ladbrokes has slashed the odds on Page playing Bond next. They went from 40/1 down to just 16/1.

The gambling company believes Page has a better chance of landing the role than Chris Hemsworth. And, he’s neck-and-neck with Michael Fassbender.

“Regé-Jean Page has shot up the betting and is now firmly considered a frontrunner in the race to replace Daniel Craig as 007,” Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said.

Both Sam Heughan and Charlie Hunnam would say ‘yes’ to James Bond

While Page is at the front and center of the Bond chatter right now, there are still at least two other actors who have been vocal about their desire to play the legendary character.

According to Screen Rant, Outlander star Sam Heughan believes playing James Bond is a “dream role.” He also thinks fans would like to see another Scottish Bond.

“Obviously, yes – it would be a big yes. Of course any actor would want it. But I also have a theory that any reasonably well-known British actor who’s worn a suit instantly has their name thrown into the ring by fans,” Heughan said.

Sons of Anarchy alum Charlie Hunnam has also said he would “100 percent” play 007. However, he doesn’t think his name is at the top of the casting list.

“I would be so flattered and honored to be considered to play James Bond as an Englishman,” Hunnam said. “But my intuition tells me that I shouldn’t be waiting for that phone call to come. I think there are many people ahead of me on that list.”

No Time To Die is scheduled to hit theaters on April 2, 2021. Bridgerton season 1 is available for streaming on Netflix.
