Stevie Nicks Can See Herself Ending Up With Mick Fleetwood: ‘I’ll Always Love Mick’
Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood had an affair in the 1970s that she has described as a doomed mistake. The relationship did not work out and temporarily put them out of speaking terms. Despite this, Nicks and Fleetwood still hold love for one another. She once revealed that she could see herself ending up with her former flame.
Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood had an affair
Nicks and Fleetwood began their affair when they were both in separate relationships. Fleetwood was even married with children. Still, they leaped into a romantic relationship that went on longer than either expected.
“Eventually I fell in love with her and it was chaotic, it was on the road and it was a crazy love affair that went on longer than any of us really remember — probably several years by the end of it,” Fleetwood wrote in his book Play On.
Though they were in love, Nicks doesn’t think the relationship ever would have happened if it weren’t for drugs and alcohol.
“Mick and I would never have had an affair had we not had a party and all been completely drunk and messed up and coked out, and, you know, ended up being the last two people at the party,” she said for Oprah’s Master Class. “So guess what? It’s not hard to figure out what happened — and what happened wasn’t a good thing. It was doomed. It was a doomed thing, caused a lot of pain for everybody, led to nothing.”
She shared that she could see herself ending up with him
Their affair came to a definitive close when Fleetwood began a relationship with Nicks’ close friend. Still, the love between them lingers.
“In terms of our relationship with each other, we still have the same connection to this day; we just love each other in the true sense of the word, which transcends passion,” Fleetwood wrote. “I will take my love for her as a person to my grave, because Stevie Nicks is the kind of woman who inspires that devotion.”
Nicks acknowledges that while the affair didn’t end well, Fleetwood is one of the great loves of her life. She wonders if they might someday end up together.
“Maybe when we’re real old,” she said, per the book Stevie Nicks: Visions, Dreams, and Rumours by Zoë Howe. “It’s possible. I’ll always love Mick. It’s a wild thing to say, but no one could ever take that away from me.”
Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood remain close friends
Even though they’re not romantically involved now, Nicks and Fleetwood are close friends.
“Stevie has a great sense of humor!” Fleetwood told Vogue. “The fact is Stevie and I have been in a band for, well, 50 years really and she’s an incredibly close friend of mine. She’s an adventurer! She is also the godmother of [Fleetwood’s daughters] Ruby and Tessa.”
Nicks is grateful that she could bounce back from the affair and build a close friendship with Fleetwood.
