Stevie Nicks owns several homes, and many people would love to score an invite. Unfortunately for men, however, they have no chance of getting a full house tour. Nicks explained that while men can visit her home, they cannot enter her backyard. She once gave her surprising reasoning for the house rule.

Stevie Nicks has two homes in Los Angeles

Nicks bought a six-bedroom, multimillion-dollar home in Los Angeles after falling in love with it on the house tour. Soon after moving in, she realized that she’d made a mistake

“There was this big family living there that obviously loved this house,” she explained, per the book Gold Dust Woman: The Biography of Stevie Nicks by Stephen Davis. “So there was a vibe. And something in me thought, ‘Maybe I can have that.’ I was not there three days before I thought, ‘What the hell do I do here?’”

Shortly after moving in, she left the house and returned to her oceanfront condo. She kept the larger home, however, and uses it to house guests or host special events like album recordings.

Nicks also owns a home in Phoenix, where she was born. Following a solo tour, she explained that her home in Arizona is a very relaxing environment for working.

“Well, I spent three years writing songs after the Street Angel tour. I probably have six songs, so I’ll come home to Phoenix in September to write the other six,” she told Rolling Stone in 1998. “I can do anything here. I can record, I can write. I can sit by the pool. I can draw. My house here is like my own little resort. At midnight, if I want to, I can go in, light candles, and put a fire in the fireplace and spend two hours writing.”

Nicks explained that she likes swimming in the backyard pool. When the interviewer told her that they couldn’t see her wearing a bathing suit, Nicks jokingly responded with, “Yeah, well, you never will.”

She explained that because she spends time in a bathing suit, she doesn’t ever want men in her backyard.

“I get a black bathing suit and a fabulous black-lace sarong thing and kind of tie it around me,” she said. “And there is never, ever, a man in the backyard. If there is, he is banished to the front of the house.”

Stevie Nicks thinks people should spend more time in bathing suits

In 2014, Nicks explained that she wished she’d spent less time worrying about her appearance in the past.

“Part of me is feeling extremely old now, and part of me is feeling extremely young,” she told Billboard. “Because I look at these pictures and realize I worried about things that I shouldn’t have been worrying about.”

Though she liked to lounge poolside in privacy, she now encourages others to spend time in a bathing suit.

“Spend more time in a bikini!” she advised. “All the little girls in their 20s, they’re terrified of looking like they’re not 16. And I’m like, ‘Oh, just get ready for what’s to come.’”
