Stevie Nicks Wrote a Heartfelt Letter to the ‘Glee’ Cast After Cory Monteith’s Death
After Glee featured Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks‘ songs, she felt a certain level of closeness with the cast. She visited the set and appreciated the way the television show introduced her songs to a younger audience. When Glee cast member Cory Monteith died in 2013, Nicks wrote a letter to the cast to offer support.
The ‘Glee’ cast covered Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks songs
In the second season of Glee, the show dedicated an episode to the Fleetwood Mac album Rumours. The episode, which centered around a gossip newspaper circulating the high school, featured songs like “Dreams,” “Never Going Back Again,” and “Go Your Own Way.” A separate episode of the series featured the Nicks-penned song “Landslide.” To show her appreciation, Nicks went to visit the cast on set.
“She kind of made us all cry,” Yahoo News reports that Dianna Agron told Entertainment Tonight, “because she came and she said, ‘If I hadn’t been a musician, I would have been a teacher. And I would’ve hoped to send this message to kids — that although there are very important things like math and science and learning, you know, kind of the things that get you through life, there’s also [the idea that] you need to find joy. And whether that’s through music or dance or things like that, you need to have outlets in your life.’”
Stevie Nicks wrote a letter to the cast following Cory Monteith’s death
In 2013, cast member Cory Monteith died of an overdose. Following his tragic death, Nicks wrote the cast a letter.
“I said, ‘Forgive me if I’m stepping into your personal space. I lost my godson to an overdose last year – he died at a fraternity party – so I do understand how shocking that is,’” she told The Telegraph.
She added that Monteith’s death deeply affected her.
“When what happened to Cory happened, I just was sick for days. Honestly, just sick,” she said. “It’s just so prevalent. It’s everywhere. It’s worse than when we were young.”
Nicks also reached out to Monteith’s co-star and girlfriend, Lea Michele.
“I had the pleasure of having Miss Stevie Nicks call me when Cory passed away and she was so wonderful,” Michele told MTV. “She sent me the most beautiful letter, as well a necklace that was hers and a book, a beautiful book of pictures.”
The Fleetwood Mac artist said if she ever appeared on a show, it would be ‘Glee’
Though Nicks is camera-shy, she once said that Glee is a show she would consider guest starring on. She would later appear on American Horror Story.
“I don’t really like to be filmed,” she told The Guardian. “But if I was ever going to do anything like that on TV, it would be Glee.”
At the time, she added that if she ever did appear on the show, she would have had some high expectations for the lighting crew.
“I say, ‘You gotta remember I’m 62 years old. So you’ve got to have those cameras up, and I have to have the best lighting in the world.’ I’m not asking to look 16, I’m asking to look 40.”
