After what seems like an eternity, showrunners finally answered some prayers and gave fans a full-length Stranger Things 4 trailer. It’s been weeks since Netflix released four official posters for the season, and while fans thought the trailer was imminent, they were wrong. Now that we’ve had a chance to watch the trailer several times and pore over the details as Stranger Things fans are wont to do, here are a few things you may have missed.

We’re pretty sure those are Demobats in ‘Stranger Things 4’

Earlier in April, fans tweeted an image that strongly hinted at Demobats in Stranger Things 4. The show gave us Demodogs in season 2, so it makes sense for other creatures to exist in the Upside Down. In the Stranger Things 4 trailer, we see several bats swooping around. While we could chalk them up as regular old bats, this is Stranger Things we’re talking about here.

At one point in the Stranger Things 4 trailer, we see Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) fighting off these creatures. We’re calling it now: Demobats.

Karen and Holly Wheeler might be in trouble

In a blink and you miss it scene, the Stranger Things 4 trailer shows Karen and her youngest child, Holly, crouched down in front of a couch. Karen looks frantic as she shields Holly from some unknown danger. We know Hawkins is in the “eye of the storm,” as Dr. Owens (Paul Reiser) puts it. Do we need to worry about Karen and Holly surviving the season?

Steve Harrington swimming underwater again

In one of the earlier teasers, fans caught sight of Steve underwater and looking behind him. In the full-length Stranger Things 4 trailer, showrunners gave us another shot of someone who appears to be Steve swimming underwater. Steve swims toward what looks like another gate to the Upside Down.

Billy’s gravestone changes in the ‘Stranger Things 4’ trailer

The episodes include one titled “Dear Billy,” and it looks like the trailer gives us a possible scene or two from that episode. When the Stranger Things 4 trailer starts, Max reads a letter to her dead stepbrother in front of his grave. “Billy Hargrove” is engraved in the stone in that scene. In a later one, we see the name has now changed to William Hargrove as Max levitates in front of Steve, Dustin, and Lucas. Does the name change represent that one of those gravestones is in a different reality?

Is Billy in the Upside Down?

There’s plenty of speculation from fans about whether or not Billy returns this season. We know Dacre Montgomery, who plays Billy, is credited with one episode at least, but we definitely don’t see this as his “return from the dead” moment. Instead, it’s more likely he appears in a flashback, or Vecna somehow conjures his image up for Max to torture her. In one scene from the Stranger Things 4 trailer, we see the hand of Vecna take up most of the shot, but a person stands in the distance. If you pause the trailer, the person looks like they have a similar hairstyle to Billy’s. Plus, their clothes are pretty close to what we previously saw Billy wear in Stranger Things Seasons 2 and 3.

For now, fans only have to wait a few more weeks. Stranger Things 4 Part 1 premieres on May 27, 2022.
