‘Stranger Things’ Ends With Season 5 But Are the Creators Teasing More?
It’s a big news day for fans of Stranger Things. Just yesterday, the popular show seemed to be teasing an announcement. After a Netflix billboard went up that stated “Every Ending Has A Beginning” in upside-down font, fans assumed that a release date for Season 4 was on the horizon. However, fans likely weren’t predicting an announcement about Season 5.
Stranger Things has been a hit since it premiered back in 2016. It remains one of Netflix’s most popular series to date and has made household names out of its cast. Millie Bobby Brown, who plays the main character Eleven, is one of the show’s biggest breakout stars. But now it seems as if Eleven’s journey is nearing its inevitable end.
‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 finally gets a release date and a poster
In an open letter, Stranger Things‘ showrunners, the Duffer Brothers, gave viewers quite a few updates. They revealed that Season 4 of the sci-fi drama will be split into two volumes. As it’s been over 2.5 years since Season 3 premiered, the showrunners wanted to give fans some content as soon as possible. Volume One of Stranger Things Season 4 will premiere on May 27. Meanwhile, Volume Two will hit Netflix on July 1, a mere five weeks later.
Season 5 will be the last season of the popular Netflix show
Continuing on, the Duffer Brothers revealed that Stranger Things Season 5 would be the last season of the show. Apparently, the showrunners always envisioned that they’d be able to tell their story in 4-5 seasons.
“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things,” the showrunners penned. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but — as you’ll soon see for yourselves — we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.”
Are the Duffer Brothers teasing ‘Stranger Things’ spinoffs, sequels, or prequels?
Naturally, some fans were devastated to hear that Stranger Things was ending with Season 5. However, the showrunners seem to be hinting at the possibility of more shows within the world of Stranger Things. Though they seemed delighted for fans to see Season 4 and Season 5, their letter gave subtle hints at possible prequels, sequels, or spinoffs.
“There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes,” the creators penned. “But first we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down. As always, we are grateful for your patience and support.”
Only time will tell what more will come from the Stranger Things universe. However, fans still have a lot more of Eleven’s journey to uncover before the original series bids farewell.
