Stranger Things fans have waited over two years to see what’s going on with the kids in Hawkins, Indiana. We’ve watched them fight monsters from a parallel universe and outsmart Russian spies. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic put a huge kink in the original release date, but bits of information have been dropped along the way.

The latest teaser trailer for season 4 dropped on Aug. 6th. While we still don’t know very many details, it gave us some hints at possibilities of what’s to come.

What did we see in the latest ‘Stranger Things’ teaser trailer?

The newest teaser trailer only showed us snippets of the characters. We see Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) being pulled away by some unknown men. Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) is shown with a freshly shaven head wielding a flame thrower. One of the more interesting shots from this trailer is a grandfather clock striking twelve. The clock appears to be a barn or even possibly a rundown attic.

Stranger Things creators are no strangers to using clock imagery. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a clock focused on in a trailer. In some of the first season 4 imagery released we saw a clock face hidden beside the Stranger Things logo. It looked like it was in the Upside Down and the hands of this clock were also pointing to twelve.

New character Victor Creel

Robert Englund joins the cast as Victor Creel, a new character in the series. According to the Stranger Things Twitter account, Creel “is a disturbed and intimidating man who is imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital for a gruesome murder in the 1950s.”

Shots from filming show a boarded-up Victorian-style house which some believe to be Victor Creel’s house and many think the grandfather clock seen in the trailer is in his attic.

Time travel or portal to the Upside Down?

We last left the kids in Stranger Things in the summer of 1985, the same year Back to the Future was released. With recent worries popping up over how the kids are aging faster in real life than in the Stranger Things universe some wonder if time travel is a possibility.

Season 3 was rife with easter eggs for Back to the Future. It’s possible they could continue that trend into season 4.

One Redditor thinks the grandfather clock might be a portal into the Upside Down. “If anyone has seen the Last Unicorn (1982), you will know there is a clock in the movie that is actually a portal to another sort of Lair, where the Red Bull resides, so another theory I have is once the crew gets the clock working, they will somehow be able to pass through the clock, just like the character’s did in the Last Unicorn to enter the Bull’s Lair. And maybe inside of the clock is the Lair of this season’s villian…”

If this is true, it’s possible this might be a way for more monsters to enter from the Upside Down. Regardless, it’s very clear the characters have a new dangerous situation on their hands.

The first three seasons of Stranger Things are currently streaming on Netflix.
