‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Set Photos Suggest Dark Times Are Coming

'Stranger Things' has been a top show on Netflix since its 2016 premiere. The show capped its third season in 2019 with an ending that was arguably the most shocking and chilling one yet. But going by set photos from 'Stranger Things' Season 4, the new season will be even spookier.

Ever since Stranger Things Season 3 wrapped, viewers have been speculating about what’ll happen next. The show left off with an ending that lived up to all the suspense and tension that had happened before. But there are still plenty of questions that need answers — from what the Russians have planned with that Demogorgon to whether Eleven will get her powers back. Going by photos allegedly from the set of Stranger Things Season 4, it appears that things are about to get a lot darker for the natives of Hawkins, Indiana.

How ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 ended

To recap, the Stranger Things Season 3 finale featured the apparent death of Jim Hopper, who got caught in the middle of the blast that closed the gate to the Upside Down.

After the tragedy, Eleven left Hawkins with the Byers family to get a fresh start on life, but their problems aren’t over just yet. Unbeknownst to them, Hopper somehow survived the blast. However, he’s being held at a Russian prison camp that also houses that Demogorgon.

‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 will be the ‘biggest and most frightening season’ in the show’s history

Teasing what’s to come, The Duffer Brothers said in a statement (via Rotten Tomatoes): “It’s not all good news for our ‘American’; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human… and other.”

“Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything…,” the statement continued. “Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American.”

The fourth season unfortunately faced delays due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but production was finally able to begin in late 2020. As it continues, alleged set photos have started to emerge showing tendrils from the Upside Down taking over a number of mobile homes in Hawkins. As The Daily Mail notes, the buildings are in the fictional neighborhood Forest Hills Trailer Park, but the tendrils could expand far beyond that.

Fans will find out when ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 returns

So far, there’s no official release date for the fourth season. As executive producer Shawn Levy previously explained to Collider: “The pandemic definitely massively delayed shooting and therefore the launch of our current Season 4, date still TBD.”

But the good news is that “it impacted very positively by allowing the Duffer brothers, for the first time ever, to write the entire season before we shoot it and to have time to rewrite in a way that they rarely had before so the quality of these screenplays are exceptional, maybe better than ever.”

Until it returns, here are seven shows similar to Stranger Things that you can watch now.
