With “Dynamite” becoming a Billboard No. 1 hit, fans are looking to future award shows BTS could dominate. Could Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook finally snag their first Grammy Award? Here’s what we know about the K-pop group, BTS, and the records their single “Dynamite” has already shattered.

BTS performs their historic single, ‘Dynamite,’ entirely in English

Sure, BTS performed parts of songs in English before. But singing entirely in English is new territory — or at least it was until “Dynamite,” an upbeat, retro song perfect for jamming out while social distancing.

The all-English lyrics certainly paid off in terms of the group’s success. The single became a favorite of fans worldwide, breaking records on YouTube and earning recognition from Billboard and the MTV Video Music Awards.

‘Dynamite’ became BTS’ first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100

This single brought a few historic moments for the K-pop group. Thanks to “Dynamite,” BTS earned their first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart.

They also now hold the title for the YouTube video with the most views in a day, with Billboard reporting they earned 101.1 million views within 24 hours. Not only that, but BTS swept the MTV Video Music Awards, after taking the stage for the first time at the award show.

The boy band earned awards in every category it was nominated for, including Best Pop Video, Best Group, and Best Choreography. Could that mean BTS will earn a well-deserved Grammy nomination for 2021? It’s possible.

Fans shared their thoughts on BTS’ past experiences with the Grammy Awards

Even with the success of songs like “Lights” and “Boy With Luv,” BTS didn’t earn any Grammy nominations during 2020. They did have a chance to perform alongside Lil Nas X for a remix of “Old Town Road,” at the 2020 Grammy Awards, though. As a result, some BTS fans have mixed feelings about American award shows.

“Their new song ‘Dynamite’ is amazing, but I don’t think that they’ll win a Grammy and my reason [for] thinking so is that accept or not, the Grammy Awards still discriminate with Asians and BTS is an Asian music group. I’ll be really surprised and glad if that happens though,” one fan on Quora said.

“For everything there is always a first, just like what happened at the last Academy Awards,” another fan on Quora noted, citing the historic win of Parasite at the Oscars.

Could BTS finally win their first Grammy Award? Fans will just have to wait until 2021 to find out. Until then, music by the K-pop group, including its recently released album Map of the Soul: 7 is available on streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.
