Who Are Suga From BTS’ Parents?
Some know him as Suga, others know him as Agust D, others still know him as the sleepy, and lovable “grandfather” of BTS, Min Yoongi. Still, not much has been revealed about this rapper’s parents and siblings. Here’s what we know about this K-pop idol and the family behind him.
Who are Suga from BTS’ parents?
This K-pop idol found a family in BTS, with some fans even nicknaming him the grandpa of the group. Outside of this boy band, however, Suga has a family waiting for him back in South Korea. Suga is the youngest boy in his family, he reportedly has one older brother, Min Junki.
Not much is known about Suga’s parents. Based on a few interviews and reports from fans, they weren’t exactly excited that he wanted to be a K-pop star. Despite objection from his parents, Suga continued to pursue his career. It was his passion for music that helped push him forward. He eventually joined Big Hit Entertainment through an audition, starting him on his journey with the K-pop group, BTS.
“They strongly opposed it for about half a year. My father is a very strict person and since my parents suffered a lot, they didn’t want their own children to suffer too. They wanted their children to become civil servants and live stable lives,” Suga allegedly said, according to Koreaboo.
Suga’s parents saw him perform live with BTS
Suga’s parents did go to see him perform live with BTS a few years after their debut. When Suga saw them in the audience, he broke down crying, bowing to them. This live performance (and its video) lives in the memory of some BTS fans because it was such an emotional moment for the musician.
Still, some fans dug deeper, one user on Amino Apps wrote, “Suga’s parents are concerned Asian parents. I can totally understand since my Asian parents are pretty much the same. According to them, a stable career with [a] high salary is the most preferable.”
Since then, however, Suga’s parents have wholeheartedly supported his career as a musician, writer, and producer. The artist went on to create solo music, collaborate with the American artist named Halsey, and win dozens of awards with his boys in BTS.
Suga performs music with the K-pop group BTS
Of course, Suga found a family with the boys in BTS. He appears on songs like “Black Swan” and “On” and even has a hand in writing songs for the group. There are multiple solo songs performed by Suga, most recently, the song off of Map of the Soul: 7, “Interlude: Suga.”
He’s also branched out to create music as his alter-ego, Agust D. He released his first mixtape in 2016. After that, Suga recorded music with award-winning artists like Halsey (“Suga’s Interlude,”) and Lee So Ra (“Song Request.”)
Music by BTS, including Suga’s solo song, “Interlude: Shadow,” off of Map of the Soul: 7, is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and most major streaming platforms.
