‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’: One Fan Suspects Masahiro Sakurai Teased the Final DLC Character’s Origin

The final DLC character for ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ arrives on Oct. 5, 2021, and fans get in one last prediction, believing that an extra tweet Masahiro Sakurai posted could hint at the origin of the last character. However, there is some skepticism if the tweets are a hint or if they are a misinterpretation.

It seems like yesterday that Masahiro Sakurai unveiled the first surprise DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It kicked off a vast Nintendo community built solely around predicting the next DLC character. However, the deadline was set, and on Oct. 5, 2021, the final DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be revealed. And one fan thinks he can narrow down the choices for that last character in Nintendo’s fighter.

Sakurai announces the final DLC character for ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ on Oct. 5

Masahiro Sakurai, creator of the Kirby series and Super Smash Bros., went all out for Ultimate, including every fighter that ever starred in the game, from Super Mario to Street Fighter’s Ryu.

Then the mad man went even further.

Digging into characters from Microsoft, Sony, past, and present, every new downloadable character blew audiences away. Joker from Persona 5, Banjo and Kazooie from the Nintendo 64 era, and even a costume based on the skeleton Sans from Undertale made Twitter explode.

Just when fans thought they cracked the code on what characters could and could not make the cut, Sakurai caught them off guard yet again.

That never slowed fans down. As the final DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate looms, one fan thinks they at least narrowed the selection down.

One Redditor suspects the final DLC character for ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ to be of western-origin

While gamers in the US have a long wishlist, including Shantae from Wayforward and Master Chief from the Halo series, Nintendo remains a Japanese company.

The Super Smash Bros. series spans the globe, and Nintendo tries to cater to every one of its markets. However, most fans expected the final DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to be more familiar to Japanese audiences.

One Redditor, though, has another idea.

Sakurai posted two tweets ahead of the announcement, one in Japanese and one in English.

“Sakurai made identical tweets in English/Japanese,” the Redditor said, “but only the Japanese tweet has a subtweet saying ‘It may be a character you don’t know.’”

While the tweets do not definitively mean the character will be of western origin, the extra note led the fan to believe so. One response jokingly took it to confirm Tony Hawk, who starred in a series of cult classic skateboarding games.

Is Sakurai’s tweet a hint or a misinterpreted translation?

In the comments, other fans pointed out different translations or interpretations of Sakurai’s message. The initial tweet encourages gamers and casual players alike to tune in for the massive gaming announcement of the final DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

One translation reads: “You may not know the new fighter, or it might be different from your personal expectations. BUT, we hope you enjoy this game show and the broadcast itself! I really enjoyed recording the broadcast.”

Some Redditors suspect the second message could serve as Sakurai trying to get ahead of inevitable controversy.
