Superman & Lois introduced John Henry Irons and alternate-Earth Lois Lane’s daughter Natalie Irons last season. She’s getting a much larger story arc in Season 2 of The CW series. And her arrival has some fans wondering if Natalie’s character appears in DC Comics.

Is Natalie Irons a DC Comics character?

As it turns out, Natalie Lane Irons does not appear in DC Comics. Like last season’s villain Tal-Rho, she is an entirely new character created by Superman & Lois writers.

But Natalie is likely an iteration of DC superhero Natasha Irons. In the comics, Natasha is John Henry Irons’ niece who takes the mantle of Steel when he is injured. In later reboots, Natasha gains superpowers via Lex Luthor and assumes a new identity as Starlight.

‘Superman & Lois’ brings Natalie to Earth

Season 1 of Superman & Lois featured glimpses of Natalie (Tayler Buck) helping her father build his armor and losing her mom at the hands of an evil Superman. But in the finale, her ship crash lands near the Kent farm, bringing her into this Earth.

In the season 2 premiere, Natalie has settled with John Henry (Wole Parks) in Metropolis and begins her first day at the high school she went to on her Earth. But realizing none of her friends know her and that she and John Henry are complete aliens here, Natalie gets upset and leaves school.

John Henry eventually finds her. And she admits how miserable and alone she feels in this new world.

By the end of the episode, Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) talks to Natalie. The two hash it out, and Lois asks John Henry and Natalie to come to stay at their farm in Smallville until they find a place of their own.

The ‘Superman & Lois’ showrunner says the season will explore more of Lois and Natalie’s dynamic

Last season, viewers learned that Lois Lane was Natalie’s mom on her Earth. And this world’s Lois lost a baby girl she planned on naming Natalie. The two share an unusual connection. And it’s one that Superman & Lois showrunner Todd Helbing says the series will continue to explore this season.

“It’s the weirdest relationship you can imagine, such a bizarre situation,” he told CinemaBlend. “They’re both emotionally strong women, so it was interesting for us writers to explore what the reality of this would be. How would you respond?”

“You’d like to say that it’s like Lois getting the daughter she lost, but she never really had a daughter,” Helbing continued. “It’s not the same. And for Natalie, that’s not her mom. We just wanted to get into what that would really feel like for both of them.”

Helbing also revealed that Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan) will appear this season. And her arrival will bring up Lane family demons that could explain why the family is so torn.

“You learn about [Lois and Lucy’s] childhood, and you learn why Sam, Lois, and Lucy are the way they are,” he teased.
