What is the premise of ‘Superman & Lois’?
The Superman/Clark Kent and Lois Lane dynamic has been the subject of many TV shows and movies. It’s been done so much that establishing an original take on this famed relationship may seem impossible. But that’s exactly what Superman & Lois has done.
According to IMDb, the series follows the adventures of Clark and Lois as they approach middle age. They’re no longer a Boy Scout-like superhero and a feisty reporter. Now they’re a bit older and wiser, attempting to raise two teenage sons. The action takes place in the CW’s “Arrowverse,” a universe of interconnected shows featuring DC characters. This includes Supergirl, a series focusing on Clark’s Kryptonian cousin. Superman & Lois is a spinoff starring Tyler Hoechlin as Clark and Elizabeth “Bitsie” Tulloch as Lois.
Superman films have always included Lois as an important yet supporting character in the superhero’s story arc. The ’90s ABC show Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman highlighted the couple but still showed them in a setting everyone recognized.
Superman & Lois puts a more mature spin on this fabled love story. The duo’s fans have seen the two operating in Metropolis in the prime of their lives. ‘Superman & Lois’ is a hit, but it has seen its share of challenges
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the CW didn’t wait long to extend the show’s run. Immediately following the series premiere, the network renewed it for a second season. The fifth episode aired this past March. But as with many other shows, the pandemic delayed production. There was even an on-set positive COVID-19 test that prompted further delays.
So, what will this mean for Superman & Lois? An unplanned, extended break in the midst of the show’s first season is no way to build momentum. But the CW is banking on the show’s popularity seeing it through to the other side. Now that the vaccine has rolled out, the network has announced a new release date for the next episode.
When will the show return?
As with many shows in production over the past year, the pandemic challenged Superman & Lois and its shooting schedule. This disruption caused a significant delay. But now fans will be happy to know it will soon return. May 18 is the date scheduled for the release of episode six, CBR.com and other outlets have reported.
The first season so far has focused on the Kents’ lives in Smallville. It has placed the Kent boys in danger, getting them involved in the action. So, where does it go from here? The series may incorporate more Arrowverse characters or step outside Smallville at some point. But fans will have to tune in to find out where it heads next.
