‘Superman & Lois’ Season 2: Tyler Hoechlin Is Hesitant to Put the Doomsday Talk to Rest, ‘Who Knows What It Leads To?’
After the premiere of Superman & Lois Season 2, fans freaked out over the potential introduction of the iconic villain Doomsday in the show. However, little did they know that another infamous comic book villain was actually the one lurking in the mines. But Tyler Hoechlin doesn’t want fans to jump ship from Doomsday just yet.
‘Superman & Lois’ Season 2 Episode 3 featured the surprise introduction of Bizarro
Superman & Lois Season 2 seemed to be teasing the arrival of Doomsday since the first episode. However, when the thing in the mines broke free, it was clear that Smallville was dealing with another threat.
Superman and Steel faced off against the villain who was the cause of Clark’s headaches and the tremors that ran through the town in episode 3. And when John was able to damage some of the villain’s armor, Clark saw his own face staring back at him.
That’s right; the bad guy turned out to be Bizarro, not Doomsday. Bizarro eventually got away, and now Clark is more confused than ever.
Tyler Hoechlin doesn’t want to dismiss Doomsday as a ‘Superman & Lois’ Season 2 villain
While it’s easy to disregard Doomsday as a misdirect used by the writers to throw fans off of the Bizarro scent, Tyler Hoechlin isn’t ready to say goodbye to the villain. While talking with TVLine following Superman & Lois Season 2 Episode 3, the actor addressed whether or not fans should worry about Doomsday.
“When it’s a movie, it’s a lot easier to say yes it was this or no it was that as the actor,” Hoechlin shared. “On these shows, I never want to say anything definitive because I don’t know. There are certain things they keep from us too. I think it is what it is at the moment, but who knows what it leads to. Only [showrunner Todd Helbing] and the writers have that answer.”
It sounds like the show will focus on Bizarro in the upcoming episodes. But viewers shouldn’t be surprised if Doomsday somehow makes an appearance this season.
Tyler Hoechlin discusses playing multiple characters
Now that Bizarro is in the picture, Tyler Hoechlin will technically be playing three characters in Superman & Lois Season 2 — Clark Kent, Superman, and Bizarro. He told TVLine, “I’ll be doing a little mano a mano with myself for sure.”
When Todd Helbing approached Hoechlin with the Bizarro concept, the actor was “insanely excited about it … With TV, there’s always the fear that sometimes you’ll get locked into doing the same thing over and over to the point where you feel like it’s Groundhog’s Day. This was a really cool chance to do something different — an opportunity to play on set and really let go.”
If Doomsday ever becomes a major player this season, maybe the actor will get a break from playing the hero, the hero’s secret identity, and the villain.
Superman & Lois Season 2, starring Tyler Hoechlin, airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
