A lot is unknown regarding the villains of The CW‘s Superman & Lois Season 2. But it’s clear that something huge is looming over the town of Smallville, and fans are going to be in for a wild ride. Thankfully, Todd Helbing, the Superman & Lois showrunner, has teased the mysterious villains in recent interviews, so the viewers can prepare for whatever is coming next.

Fans got their first look at Doomsday in ‘Superman & Lois’ Season 2 Episode 1

Besides the apparent tension between Superman and Lt. Mitch Anderson, there didn’t seem to be an obvious threat for the Man of Steel to face in Superman & Lois Season 2 Episode 1. However, the episode’s final shot revealed that Superman is about to deal with one of his greatest foes — Doomsday.

Clark experienced headaches and visions throughout the hour that seemed to connect to earthquakes rumbling through Smallville. But none of his problems made sense until fans saw a hand burst through rock deep beneath the Shuster Mines.

Immediately, comic book fans understood that this hand belonged to Doomsday, which spells a lot of trouble for Clark and the Kent Family in Superman & Lois Season 2.

Todd Helbing teases more villains in ‘Superman & Lois’ Season 2

Before the Superman & Lois Season 2 premiere, Todd Helbing discussed the upcoming episodes with TV Insider. And when the interviewer asked the showrunner if Anderson and the Superman of America were the villains for this season, he set the record straight.

“Uh, no, it’s not them,” Helbing shared. “I’ll just say there’s multiple this season. They all start out maybe unrelated — ‘unconnected’ might be a better way of describing it — but they start to merge. That’s really all I can say, only because if I tell you, if I give you one little tidbit, everybody out there is gonna know who it is.”

When asked when fans can expect to meet the villains, the showrunner said, “So, you see the first tease at the end of the premiere. In episode 2, you’re gonna get a little bit more, another piece. And then in episode 3, you’re gonna find out outright what it is.”

So, Doomsday is only one piece of the puzzle, and other Big Bads are looming in the background. Thankfully, fans will not have to wait very long to discover what is happening in season 2.

What can fans expect to see in episode 2?

As Helbing teased, the audience will learn more about the villains in Superman & Lois Season 2 Episode 2, “The Ties That Bind.” Viewers can also expect to see more of Clark dealing with his visions in the hour, directed by Arrowverse star David Ramsey.

Episode 2’s synopsis reads, “Clark opens up to Lois about his ongoing struggle with visions and admits that there is only one person who might be able to help. Meanwhile, Lana receives some unexpected news, and tensions begin to rise between Lois and Chrissy. Lastly, Sarah breaks plans with Jordan to spend time with Natalie.”

In the trailer for “The Ties That Bind,” Clark tells Lois that he sees “destruction” in his visions. This prompts her to ask if he sees “a planet being destroyed.” Meanwhile, Jordan tries to convince his dad to let him join him on missions since his visions hinder his ability to do his job.

Superman & Lois Season 2 Episode 2 airs on Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
