Fans of Supernatural have had the luxury of the show being in their lives for 15 years. However, they will soon see it come to an end in November. While saying goodbye to the show and its main characters, Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), will certainly be hard for the fans, it has also been pretty hard for the actors who play those characters.

With the final day of filming taking place recently, Jared Padalecki opened up about how hard it has been to say goodbye to the character he has played for 15 years on Supernatural.

Jared Padalecki has starred on ‘Supernatural’ for 15 years

Supernatural first aired in 2005 and has since become one of The CW’s most popular shows. While fans have enjoyed getting to know many characters over the years, they have certainly fallen in love with Sam and Dean Winchester, and their relationship as brothers.

Padalecki also loves the character that he has played.

“I love Sam Winchester,” Padalecki said on Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast before he finished filming the finale, per E! News. “He’s been my close friend for 15 years and I want to do him justice. So I’m trying to focus really hard to make sure that if Sam cries, it’s Sam tears, not Jared’s.”

The show wrapped up its final day of filming

According to E! News, Supernatural‘s final day of filming was on Sept. 10, 2020. The last day was initially supposed to happen in March, but the show had to shut down production with only two episodes left to film due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Usually what happens is you work your a** off for nine months and then the last couple episodes are the biggest, most emotional, action-packed crescendo of the entire season,” Jensen Ackles said on the Inside of You podcast before he finished filming the finale, according to E! News.

He also added: “So it’s like running a marathon and then they expect you to sprint the last few miles. It’s always pretty exhausting, and I do remember having the thought of ‘I wish we could regroup and like have a little break, get refreshed.’ And I did not anticipate a four-and-a-half month refreshment. I’m good! I’m refreshed! I’m ready to go.”

At the end of March, The CW chose to move the last seven episodes to its fall schedule. On Aug. 17, it announced that the first episode will air on Oct. 8, 2020, and the series finale will air on Nov. 19.

Jared Padalecki reveals how hard it has been for him to say goodbye

On the Inside of You podcast, Padalecki opened up about how hard it has been to say goodbye to Sam Winchester.

“Here’s what I’m trying to deal with right now: Saying goodbye to a friend of 15 years,” he said, per E! News. “I’ve never gone five months without playing Sam Winchester, not since I was 22 years old. I’m 38 now with a wife and three kids and grey hairs they have to scratch out with a comb.”

Padalecki also said that he had cried every day for a week.

“Every now and again we’re at a location that’s like, ‘Oh, I’ve been here for 15 years. I remember this place,'” Padalecki said, according to E! News. “And it’s like, OK, this is the last time we’ll be at this location. There’s a possibility that I’ll never make this drive again.”
