‘Supernatural’ Star Genevieve Padalecki Says Why ‘Walker’ Is Good for Her Marriage to Jared Padalecki
Genevieve Padalecki met her husband, Jared Padalecki, when she appeared on his series Supernatural. She originally appeared as Geneieve Cortese, but once they married she became a Padalecki. So, when Jared started a new show after 15 seasons, she joined him again. She stars on his re-imagining of Walker, Texas Ranger.
Jared plays Cordell Walker on Walker. Genevieve plays Cordell’s wife Emily, who is killed in the first scene. She appears again in flashback as Cordell tries to solve her murder. Both Padaleckis were on The CW’s Walker panel for the Television Critics Association via Zoom on Jan. 15. Walker airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
After ‘Supernatural,’ Genevieve Padalecki thanks ‘Walker’ for helping her marriage to Jared Padalecki
Although Genevieve made guest appearances on Supernatural, she wasn’t in every episode. They also filmed Supernatural in Vancouver, Canada, so that kept Jared away most of the year. They both get to film Walker together in Austin, Texas.
“It’s actually one of the most amazing things that’s happened, I think for our marriage, to be honest,” Geneieve said. “Working together is how we met and we both, unfortunately for our family, really enjoy working. So it’s been really nice to be able to work together and we do really well.”
The Padaleckis share a similar work ethic, Genevieve said.
“We’re kind of those A-type personalities where we are constantly building on what we’re working on and rubbing off on each other and giving each other criticism,” she said. “And constantly trying to improve, which is probably pretty annoying for other people, but it’s really fun for us.”
Jared Padalecki knows why Genevieve Padalecki really likes ‘Walker’
As the title character, Jared is obviously in a lot more of Walker than Genevieve. He thinks she just likes getting him out of her hair.
“She didn’t go into detail, but I think it’s been wonderful for our marriage because I’m out of the house,” Jared said. “I got home during the quarantine, during Supernatural’s hiatus and she’s like, ‘Uh, can’t you go back to work somewhere? Um, don’t you have somewhere to be? Quit giving the kids candy. It’s 8:00 AM.’”
In all seriousness, ‘Walker’ has one advantage over ‘Supernatural’
You can tell the Padaleckis have a healthy marriage because they can joke about it. In all seriousness, Genevieve likes having her husband closer to home. Even before and after work, he has more family time than he did living in Vancouver for Supernatural.
“Let’s be real,” Genevieve said. “You were commuting out of the country. So I think it’s a little different. Now you actually get to see how we live. And he’s actually up with them in the morning and usually putting them to bed, which is pretty, pretty normal, but pretty special in our house.”
