Susan Lucci Confirms She Was Tapped for ‘The Golden Bachelorette’
The wait is finally over. Earlier this month, ABC announced the first-ever golden bachelorette, ending months of speculation and gossip. Before the big announcement, several names were tossed around in fan circles as potential bachelorettes. Some celebrity names even made the list. Susan Lucci was talked about as a potential golden bachelorette. Once Joan Vassos was named the lead, fans quickly assumed ABC always knew who they were going with. That apparently wasn’t the case. Recently, Lucci revealed that her potential involvement wasn’t just a rumor; ABC contacted her team. She passed.
Susan Lucci says she was contacted about appearing on ‘The Golden Bachelorette’
Fans of the series mentioned Susan Lucci as a potential first-ever golden bachelorette. Still, few people believed Lucci was in talks to star on the reality dating competition. According to Lucci, she was never in serious talks about The Golden Bachelorette, but someone did reach out to her. In a chat with People, Lucci said ABC contacted her publicist about her appearing on the show. Her team ultimately decided it was not for her.
While Susan Lucci ultimately passed on The Golden Bachelorette, she said she is actually a big fan of the franchise. Lucci hasn’t always been a viewer, though. She told the publication that she started watching the show a couple of years ago and was heavily invested in The Golden Bachelor. She revealed that her mother, Jeanette Lucci, was a franchise fan before her death in 2021.
Was Susan Lucci ever married?
Susan Lucci decided not to appear on The Golden Bachelorette, but her story would have made a compelling one. Like the first-ever golden bachelorette, Joan Vassos, Lucci is a widow. Lucci married Helmut Huber in 1969. They enjoyed a long and happy marriage, mostly out of the public eye.
Huber and Lucci met in 1969 when they were both working at a hotel on Long Island. He was the executive chef, and she was working over her summer break from college. They quickly became inseparable. The couple dated for less than a month before tying the knot. They went on to have two children.
Lucci and Huber were married for more than 50 years when he died in 2022. He was 84. His death hit Lucci hard. Less than a year after his passing, she appeared on Good Day New York and called Huber the love of her life. She said she was not ready to start dating; she was still acutely missing Huber’s presence in her life.
