The Sweet Reason David Harbour Married Lily Allen
In September 2020, David Harbour and Lily Allen exchanged vows in front of her two daughters in an intimate wedding ceremony. Though they’ve shared photos from their special day on social media, the couple has kept most of the details surrounding their low-key nuptials to themselves — until now.
In a new interview, the Stranger Things star opened up about his marriage to Allen, sharing the sweet reason he decided to make her his wife during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic after he had initially planned not to.
David Harbour and Lily Allen tied the knot in 2020
Harbour and Allen were first linked back in August 2019 after being photographed together in London. By the fall of 2019, many were convinced the two were a couple after images of them cozied up together made their rounds through the internet.
Although they never publicly confirmed their romance, Harbour and Allen made their red carpet debut in 2020 when they attended the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Chanel pre-BAFTA party together.
While it was pretty clear that the two were romantically involved, no one knew just how serious the pair were until Allen was spotted wearing a ring on ~that~ finger in May 2020.
Their love was officially confirmed in September of that year when media outlets reported that Harbour and Allen had filed for a marriage license in Las Vegas.
A day after obtaining their marriage certificate, which the Clark County Clerk Registrar’s office tweeted a photo of, Harbour and Allen tied the knot in a private Las Vegas wedding ceremony officiated by an Elvis Presley impersonator.
“In a wedding officiated by the king himself, the people’s princess wed her devoted, low born, but kind credit card holder in a beautiful ceremony lit by the ashen skies courtesy of a burning state miles away in the midst of a global pandemic,” Harbour captioned Instagram photos from his and Allen’s their big day. “Refreshments were served at a small reception following.”
Lily Allen’s daughters convinced David Harbour to make their love official
Though his love for Allen has been evident from the beginning, it turns out that Harbour wasn’t planning on getting married amid the coronavirus pandemic.
While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on June 2, the award-winning actor revealed that he had changed his mind and made it official with Allen due, in part, to some accidental advice from the singer’s two young daughters, Marnie (8) and Ethel (9).
“We were riding around beginning of pandemic — she has two kids, these beautiful daughters, 8 and 9 — and we were riding bikes out in the country trying to figure out what we were gonna do for the next year or however long it was going to take,” he recalled Kimmel. “And the little one was riding along and she was going like, ‘David, dad, David, dad.’ Because the D got her confused. And the older one got very upset with that, which I understand. She was like, ‘He’s not our dad! He’s not our dad!'”
Harbour continued, “And then younger one was like, ‘Well what is he? He’s kind of our dad.’ She’s like, ‘No he’s not, he’s our stepdad.’ And she goes, ‘What is he?’ And she goes, ‘He’s just some guy in our lives!'”
Harbour shared that after talking with the two little girls, he realized that he “needed” to marry their mom sooner rather than later.
“I was like, ‘I need to marry this woman,'” Harbour added. “Because the emotional fallout …”
David Harbour doesn’t mind being called ‘some guy in our lives’
Though he’s been a stepdad to Allen’s two daughters for several months now, Harbour revealed to Kimmel that the little girls still refer to him as “some guy in our lives.”
But being labeled as such doesn’t bother the actor as it’s now one of his “favorite things [he’s] ever been called.”
“‘Just some guy in our lives,'” he said. “9 years old going on 35. ‘Just some guy in our lives.'”
