Sydney Sweeney Once Dreamed of Being a Racecar Driver
If you’re a fan of Sydney Sweeney, you know she’s a jill-of-all-trades. In addition to her promising career in acting, she recently got into producing as well. The daughter of a lawyer, Sweeney learned to prioritize education at a young age. Thus, when she’s not working, she’s pursuing a degree in entrepreneurship. The Players Table producer is also very athletic and outdoorsy. She loves everything from MMA to wakeboarding. But what fans truly seem to be surprised by is the actor’s love of cars.
Sydney Sweeney’s TikTok page, Syd’s Garage, is a tribute to her love of cars
When Sweeney created her now-famous TikTok page, Syd’s Garage, she wasn’t expecting it to become a topic of conversation. Because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Sharp Objects alum had more time on her hands than she was used to. She thought it was the perfect opportunity to buy and remodel her dream car, a 1969 Bronco.
When her family expressed interest in seeing her progress, she created a TikTok page so she could make seamless videos. However, the Spokane, Washington native didn’t know how to make the page private, so the page has now been viewed by millions. Many fans were surprised to see Sweeney rebuilding a car all on her own. But the actor’s love of cars extends way back to her childhood. In fact, she once dreamed of being a racecar driver.
The MMA fighter dreamt of being a racecar driver at a young age
“I’ve always been really into cars,” Sweeney shared with CR. “My babysitters, from when I was really young, were twin race car drivers. They were these two girls, they were super awesome, definitely the coolest babysitters I ever had. There was a moment where I was like, ‘I’m gonna be a racecar driver.’ I think that’s the moment I fell in love with cars and how cool they were because I thought they were the coolest people ever.”
How did Sweeney learn to rebuild her 1969 Ford Bronco?
Sweeney seems to have traded in her dream of racing cars in favor of rebuilding them. But where did she get the skill-set to restore old cars? Turns out the Euphoria actor tapped a family friend to help her with the project. Using the knowledge she gain from him, she was able to restore the Bronco. But Sweeney isn’t just stopping with one car. She recently bought a 1965 Mustang which she plans to rebuild also. When she’s done with that, she’ll move on to a Porsche.
“My best friend’s dad, his name is Rod Emory, builds and restores the most beautiful Porsches,” Sweeney explained. “I called him up and I told him what I was dreaming and wanting to do. He’s kind of like a second dad to me, so he cleared out a section of the shop and let me bring my Bronco in and some of the guys at the shop walked me through everything I was going to do and worked with me hand-in-hand in restoring the Bronco. It has been a really fun journey and has honestly turned into something bigger than I ever thought it would be.”
